Permafrost Crystals

Hello. I was hoping someone could tell me how to get to the "Wolf Pen" area in Permafrost. I need some crystals and no one seems to be selling any on Nameless. Im lvl 59 druid. Is this the only area in the zone where they are ground spawn? Are they on any MOBS? Thank you in advance for your help. Blessed Be.

Yes, some drop off mobs. I went through AE'ing last night. In about 100 gobbies killed, i got 5 crystals.

If you look on a map at eqatlas, I believe (unless i was really lost...again) that number 5 on the map is the spot that drops down to the wolf pens. On the way there you will pass through a castle-type area with a bunch of doors that has some ground spawns also.

Just wandering in permafrost = bad, especially when ya pay no attention to where you are going and open a door and get charged by ice giants.

Got Plenty

Well I blew through Permafrost and got 15 crystals and made 15 Devine Glazes. Not a problem, the crystals dropped off Mobs and there were plenty on the ground around the cute little wolfies. THE PROBLEM? LOL, I never got to use them! I failed all 15 combines on faith/spirtstones with a skill of 195 and a Geerlock.....grrrrrr. Ok, I guess I should have made more dishes till 199 and then tried....but hey - I made a Leatherfoot Haversack and a Stormwhatever Belt at tailoring of 174 (1st try of each)so I would have thought I would get one sucsess. Also, I have no problem making Golden Idols sooo the triv on these items must really be greater than 250. Just FYI - these Faith/Spirtstones are hard to make.

With a 244 skill and my trophy, I seem to have about a 70% success rate on these.

permafrost Crystals and trivials

Forget about the stuff on the ground, just kill gobbies.
If you find yourself in the wolf pens, then pick it up if it is there.

But 2 hours will net about 1 stack. Not very hard.


Now, the Golden Idol of Tunare is trivial at 243.
Estimated trivial on other golden Idols and stones is apx 280-302.

At 250 pottery, I almost never fail a Tunare Idol
(edit: failed my first last night)
and have rarely failed firing it. (Yes it appears to be harder to fire then to make)

Stones, are very hard. at 230 I succeeded 3 in 11.
At 250 I succeed 1 in 2 or 3.

There was a really good map posted ina thread back on the old board. I don't think it's on EQAtlas or EQMaps, but it's marked with every ground spawn. I used to go in, snatch up all the ground spanws ( there are about 7 ) then kill until they respawn and get any drops I could... the grab the ground spawns again and head out. That would get me a little over a stack in about 2 hours.

I'll see if I can find the map and post it somewhere

You really don't need a map to farm these unless you are low level. Just weave your way around. It never seams to end. I think the ice goblins are about 20 and the priest a little more. There are some elite guards that may be as high as 38 (best guess). There are plenty on the ground. They look like black diamonds. Warning! do not go into Lady Vox's chambers unless you have a group. It is the room with the 2 big brown doors just past the king. I killed the first ice giant easily with my level 56 necro pet. But on the way in there we plenty more to deal with. Had a stack of crystals so it was bye-bye to my skinny pet and gated out.

That map was one that I made...got so much grief from people about "stealing" the map (first from EQ Atlas, then from a random poster on EQ Maps), that I stopped hosting it and sending it out.

Sorry-blame the people who have nothing better to do that whine about someone else doing a community service out of the goodness of their hearts.

My view:

1) You are mad to try Faithstone until at least done with Opal Steins. You are burning sapphires. I know this because I burned many sapphs trying!

2) I think there are different trivials. I've had great success with Learned/Good Erudite and Brell, 1 out of 2 for Marr, and horrible for GFay/Tunare. This all at between 215 and 222. But hard not to be supersticious. Not tried any Spiritstones. (Why are these so heavy from the same raws anyway? LOL)

Anyone happen to know the respawn time on the permafrost crystals? I know where they all are but it gets boring killing the goblins after awhile. I'd like to just camp out and play an alt while I wait for the respawn. I had thought it was a pretty short time, but it took a lot longer than I had expected and I forgot to check the time.
