    re: Poison Wish List

While you can call it "lazy" in reality it comes up to "time" Sure, we could totally redo the way it works... the question is, is the time involved worth it or even available.

So, they (long before I worked for SOE) implemented something that WOULD work with the time available.

It is often more a balance of time available and what can be done than "being lazy"
Ok, I can understand your sensitivity to the word "lazy". Being a software developer myself, I can fully appreciate schedules. But seriously, the most useful reason for even messing with the "ability" is for making augments. And even that is dwindling as a good reason, the farther and farther Oow fades into oblivion.

At this stage in EQ, I'd say its just not worth the effort. Let it rot on the vine and devote time to some aspect of the game that affects more people than just the few twisted rogues like myself.

I would rather see poisons applied whist not attacking, rather than when in a resting mode. Used like potions with just a right click on the vial would be preferred over having to click on the weapon (Although I guess this would mean we were applying poisons to both weapons at the same time or just primary (maybe a future AA in there to apply poisons to both weapons)).

Also whilst thinking of posions it would be nice if we could sell our posions to other classes for them too use (obviously clerics and paladins would never use them). Perhaps Tier 1-4 can be no fail apply poisons and Tier 5 up require an apply poison check (effectively blocking no rogues from using). Or even better get rid of apply poison .

Types of posions - Would like see a single BIG HIT poison with a long cast time (30s) on it, say a DD, snare or slow (for the pullers) and short cast (1.5s) poison with a long life DoT or multi-proc.

I personally vote for option number 2.
[75 Shadowblade (Rogue)] Xaxony Silentshadow (Wood Elf) Council of Dragons ZONE: Fennin Ro
        Journeyman Artisan, Master Poisoncrafter
[69 Maestro (Bard)] Skyai Blue`Seas (Half Elf) Council of Dragons ZONE: Fennin Ro

I gotta agree with Twiddler here.
! option would be to make rouges able to make a rouge only Proc aug. And it perhaps used the combine powersource to give it fancy effects. This idea of mine isnt all that tought through but it would take use of already implemented features and I can already see a few bumps in the road.

But in general the idea of rogues able to make their own poison proc augs aint bad.

on the question to what degree it should be flashy or not I do not have a strong view either way.

but personally I would prefer a kind of bard like effect. Like a rogue makes a poison and the duration of the potion could be different. The shorter the duration the more potent the effect. And all hits that land would proc the effect. I was never a big fan of poisons only lasting long enough for 1 hit.

The reason why I say bard like is because bard buffs last alot shorter then regular buffs. and wouldnt hog a buff slot.

I've been out of the game for ages, but I do have some thoughts on poison in general.

First, I never believed poison was ever "broken" so much as "poorly designed and hastily implemented". This holds true for nearly every rogue-type character I've ever seen in every CRPG I've ever played. Rogue players see their class as an important addition to the game, but the developers have a massive challenge when it comes to effectively translating various roguish skills and abilities (which are by definition "unfair") into a fair and equitable implementation.

Second, unless you're talking about a wholesale redesigning of the entire usability of poison in the game I doubt there will be much impact either way. Personally, I found the poisoning of the slot to be needlessly limiting. My sojourn through Hibernia a few years back made me appreciate what careful planning and swapping out poisoned weapons could do for a rogue.

Third, rogues who use poison LIKE to use poison. It's a flavor thing as much as any actual mechanical advantage. (Point of fact, much of what draws the rogue player to the class is flavor. Otherwise there would have been nobody playing the class when EQ was first released! Gods, did I just date myself there or what?) With that in mind, being able to use a poison effect several times in a given fight, perhaps even switching effects each time, could be considered attractive by many.

Finally, odds are that the biggest impact of changes in poison use will be seen in PvP environments where slowing and blinding venoms, mana-draining toxins, and direct-damage poison are generally more effective. PvE in EQ has historically stacked the deck against using anything but direct-damage.

Anyhoo, two coppers from a retired rogue who's likely been out of the loop for far, far too long.

Oh, and Ngreth? Belated congratulations on joining the EQ Dev Team!
