  • Poison Components

A few questions for all you rogue out there.

1> Do you acquire your components for making poison yourself?

2> Do you buy them in the bazaar at a reasonable price?

3> Only buy them from vendors?

The reason I am asking is that I am all the time running across posion components that I discard. I like to think that when I sell something at a reasonable price in the bazaar that I am doing the community a service - and making a buck in the process.

    It depends.

If I decide to try a poison out and if I know I can gather the components myself with getting killed by the green mobs that drop them, then I get the components from the mobs. If the components are on light blue or higher mobs then I have to buy the and opt for the npc merchants first because they are usually cheaper. After I determine the poison is as useless as all of the others I don't make that one any more. I usually don't buy from the bazaar because of the expense and the fact that the poisons are just not that useful.

This is just what I do and should not be interpreted as being what all rogues do. If your stuff is selling in the bazaar the by all means keep selling it.

Please do put your poison components up for sale. Chances are high they won't sell, because one charge, even a 15min proc, just isn't worth spending much, and skill ups can be had by receipe's that have all components for sale from NPC's. I would assume you would want to get 3-10pp for each item you sell, to make it worth your time, and I would guess the most a rogue would pay is 1 or 2pp per item, unless NPC's already sell for less (in which case, obviously they won't even pay that much).

Spider venom sacs sell on NPC's for around 5 gold, and I consider that too high of a price to pay for a one-in-100 (feels like) shot at a Apply Poison skill up.

But maybe you'll find some ingredients for a poison that a few rogues on your server make regularly, and you'll get some customers. I do think just getting it out there, even if the trade value doesn't match, would be a service.

Drop of Mercury, Twilight Worms, Plague Mites, anything required for the hate reduction, or some of the nastier DoT or DD PoP poisons just might sell, and I would buy hearstring venom sacs, or those fish from LoY needed for the slow poisons.

But take plague mites for example. I believe they sell to a NPC for more than 1pp each. So why woud anyone sell them in the bazaar for less than 2pp??? Now what would be a palatable price for a rogue? Well, I'd rather go to KC and farm and maybe get a lupine dagger, locluster or swarmcaller to sell while I'm there, than pay 2pp for a poison component. So even though I am an active poisoner, I'll never be part of the plague mite market, due to what NPC's give PC's for them, and what I am willing to pay. My point is I think this is the common situation with poison ingredients, due to the lack of encounter-altering punch poisons provide, and therefore, your efforts may be wasted.

But hey, there is only one way to find out. Put whatever you find up for sale at a price that works for you and see what happens. It can't hurt, just may be a waste of your time.
