  • Celestial Essence nerfed

I just went to make some celestial essence so I could make celestial suspension and discovered that you can no longer combine it in a mortar and pestle. Apparently from what guildmates tell me they changed the required container to a mixing bowl a few patches back.

I guess that makes a whole lot of sense though..I mean..why wouldn't someone want to mix a poison component in a bowl that they make their food in?

Was this an intentional nerf or just screw up they need to fix?

Was done when or shortly after the new UI came out, so that people other than just rogues could make CE with the new UI (since the new UI on mortar and pestle only works for rogues).

They should've made it an either/or thing then. Let the rogues keep making it in the mortar/pestal and then everyone else use the mixing bowls.

Celestial Essence is not a poison component, thats why.

No but it sure isn't food either. It should be combinable in both containers at least. Now I've got to go waste at minimum a bank slot on a collapsable bowl, and till i get one of those a container slot on a normal one.

Frankly, I don't understand why it's not just a buyable component, considering the volume that you need in so many recipes, and it's just tedium, I've never failed a combine. But I digress...

The Mixing Bowl was an excellent fix for an immediate and worrisome problem, but, I agree, I'm not sure of the rationale for not making it either/or. A possible limitation in the coding perhaps? Don't know, but the change was a godsend for us non-Rogues and completely intentional as stated.

That's because the recipe is no-fail. The tedium is intentional; it's a block to turn away those who won't put up with the needed grind for making some of the higher end items. It's also a revenue opportunity for those who make CE and resell it in the bazaar.

I can't speak for the devs, but my hunch is that it was just to preserve recipe space. There are several dozen CE recipes extant that we know of, and probably a bunch more that no one has thought to test yet. Changing the container from M&P to mixing bowl is just a matter of updating the recipes to use a new container. Making it either-or would double the number of recipes needed for CE, and that would take room away from other recipes that might be much more valuable.

My compromise solution would be to make the Scent of Marr CE recipe makable in the M&P. This allows the vast majority of rogues to make CE without needing an additional container. Those who still want to save a buck and make it from research components could do so in a bowl.

I should also point out that a mixing bowl costs like one silver from a merchant...

But they aren't *only* for poison making. As a baker, I tend to think they are for baking making a mixing bowl work well for me (think lucky cabbage and planar fruit pies for instance). My potter is pretty sure they are for pottery, and my friend's smith swears they are for smithing. Obviously you can't make everyone happy, but with the new UI change no one but rogues could use the UI to make CEs when they were in the mortar and pestle, which really isn't reasonable. Get a collapsible mixing bowl, they generally go for under 500pp in my experience, quite reasonable.
