Is there a big lost in not enchanting your bars besides plat? Have looked around but couldnt come up with a solid answer

If you don't enchant the bars before combining, your items will be statless and worth only selling to vendors.

Otherwise, no, no other loss.

Not sure how much with Electrum, but you get significant more money back from the merchant with Gold and Platinum (you actaully can make a profit per piece) -- and at an everage of 19 successes out of 20 you can just about break even per stack.

I can confirm that. You can make a few pps per combine on high end gold pieces when enchanted.
