  • INCORRECT TRIVIALS FOR ENGRAVED ROYAL VELIUM

Is this the place I should be posting this? It is a jewelcraft combine. All the trivials for every piece of ENGRAVED royal velium armor are incorrect. They are ALL nofail combines. I know. I have made about 200 pieces of the stuff and have never had a failure. Royal velium can fail. IMBUED royal velium can fail. ENGRAVED royal velium cannot. I have also never had a skillup while doing the combine. :!:

Before making such a claim (and I'm not saying you're wrong), but have you proven that these are a no fail combine?

The only way to do something of that nature is to prepare a set on a a character who has no jewelcraft skill at all. If this combine is sent to no-fail like say Celestial Essence or Silk Swatches, that character should succeed even with a 0 skill. Most "no fail" recipes will also allow you to gain skill until skill 15.

So, have you done this test, or have you just been exceptionally lucky with the RNG?

What you request cannot be done in this case. IMBUED royal velium cannot be made by someone with no jewlery skill and it is a NODROP component in the making of ENGRAVED royal velium. (And the RNG has never been my friend. I once spent 14kp on velium hound furs and got 1 skillup). Come on you math majors.... what are the odds of an event with a 5% probability of occuring NOT happening even once in 200 attempts? Please, somebody do the math for us.

Well, it can be done... just very, very unlikely to succeed in making the IMBUED (NO DROP) item needed to try the ENGRAVED with a Jewelcraft Skill of zero.

What I will do is put a note in the Recipes for the Engraved (in the Database):

There is a report that this Engraving Recipe is -NO FAIL-. If you DO fail with this Recipe, PLEASE let us know. Also please indicate if you have recieved a Skill Up when using the recipe.
Will that be sufficient for now?

In a million attempts (each consisting of 200 combines), this would be expected to happen about 35 times.

              Can be done actually.

On FV this is droppable, so have someone make it then hand to character with no JC skill and do the combine

I'm surprised that no one mentioned the other obvious point.

Even if it's no-fail, it still has a trivial level. So the initial point about the trivial levels being incorrect is... well, incorrect.

                  Trivial update anyway

Created Engraved Greaves tonite ( 07/13/03 ) with JC skill of 182.

With Gearlok in hand and 280 wis both combines (imbued and engraved) gave me 'you can no longer advance' messages.

I have made at least 50 BPs and fail about 20 percent of the time when I try to add the etched diamond to the BP. Way more than the 5% I expected. Do I need to up my jewry skill a lot above trivial?? I am at about 185 get message that I cant get anymore skill ups so I know it is trivial and I use the gearloc gemsetting device.

You have made 50 of the NO DROP BPs that are used for the shawl quest, or 50 of the BPs that you can sell?

I have sold 50+ of them .. the failure happens when I make the no drop one. The step from no drop to droppable is not a problem.

Never looked up the recipe for the tradable version. But, now that I think about it, I failed on the BP once while doing the quest. As I recall, it was not trivial to me either at 179 (I think) JC.
