Hi,
I just completed my JC Grand Master Trophy yesterday. It was my 4th attempt and I was fairly pessimistic about my chances. I went to Thurg to gather the Velium bars and do the combines, since everything is fairly close. Glad Dwarfs have short legs and put everything nearby. I did a /who ... no one in the zone to disturb the karma.
I mounted all 4 gems without a hitch. Vial of Purified Mana, no problem. Opened up the pottery wheel, slowly placed all the parts inside ... not wanting to create bad mojo. I got all the mounted gems and the purified mana in the slots, got the clay and water in .... checked my Lagmeter ... not a quiver. All seemed ready. I inched my pointer to the combine button. Almost there .... Lagmeter goes from all green to red. Disconnected!!!!!! Then, never had this before, a Windows message box appears "EQGAME.EXE has committed a fatal error. Shutting program down". GAAAAAHHHH! I return to the game after getting 5 minutes of 1018 errors. I expected to find everything back in my inventory, as this is what usually happens now when going LD with items in an external combine box. Everything gone! Not in my inventory, not in the pottery wheel, not in my bank. All gone. Poofed. Still no one in the zone, so didn't appear that someone snagged the items out of the wheel if they got left there.
I figured I was SOL. I banged my head on the walls a few times. Cursed the gods. Contemplated using my computer as a sea anchor. In despair I petitioned. I know ... I know. Nothing good would come of it. I would get the canned "I'm sorry, there is nothing we can do about items lost in this manner, we cannot verify ... blah, blah, blah". No answer after 1 hour. No answer after 2 hours. No answer going on 3 hours. Out of the blue, a Guide asks me what happened. I explained, knowing in all certainty that this was just an exercise in futility. The Guide patiently listened to my tale of woe and stated he would refer it to a GM! I was stunned, but still sure that the Powers That Be would conspire against me and find my case wanting. I traveled to the Bazaar and set up shop for the night.
I awoke yesterday and checked my Trader. Pleasantly surprised that my entire stock of prismatic dyes had been sold. More Trolls in pink armor. The previous evening's traumatic loss a dim memory, I ventured forth after dropping off my trader bags at the bank. I received a tell asking me to do a combine for a Valorium Ring of Gallantry. I said I would attempt it (250 JC, geerlok, JCM1). Person opened a trade window and it appeared my inventory was full. I always have a bag empty, what was going on? Everything seemed in order .... what was in my loot bag? GASP! All my items from the GMT combine were back! Praise the wisdom of the GM staff! I went wild!
All thoughts of the ring combine forgotten ... I tore off to the PoK pottery wheel. My luck was HOT. The planets had aligned in my favor. I wasn't going to waste it. Created the unfired seal, no problem. Off to the kiln. Fired the seal, no problem. Went to a lag free part of PoK and opened my jeweler's bag. In went the seal, silver bar, and shard. Nothing could stop me now. Gently tapped the combine button with my eyes squeezed shut. Opened my eyes, ready for the cruel let down. And ..... SUCCESS!!!! I must have linked the Trophy over 50 times to anyone who was too slow to get away in the first hour.
Thank you to the Guide who decided to escalate my plea for mercy to the kind GM who mysteriously restored my items!
