I need to change the price for rubies, sapphires, diamonds, and bds. I will also be adding prices for imbued diamonds and other stones such as midnight stones shortly. Anyone have any other suggestions as to what to add? A page on quest items perhaps? Thanks for the input. - Laz
Very nice!!!
I would make one more chart. (I hope I didn't miss it or something. If it is already there I apologize.)
Take your trivial chart and replace the info under the metal columns with the cost of the metal plus the Gem in the gem column. This will make it easy for people to see when they should move up to the next metal.
I read over your guide, and I really like how you organized it. It's sensible, well laid out, eminently readable, and very clear.
I do have a few comments and corrections for you:
In your Advancing in Level section, you state, "Wisdom affects how often you succeed when you combine metal and gemstones." To the best of our current knowledge, this is not true. Only your skill level in the tradeskill itself determines your success or failure. High Wis or Int only helps in getting skillups, not in getting successes.
Later in that section, you state, "As you move through the different combinations of stones, beware of "bugged" items that have an excessively high failure rate. Avoid forging electrum ruby rings or combining star rose quartz with silver, electrum and gold when working on raising your skill. " I haven't heard about this before. Could you elaborate some on this bug? If it can be verified, it should be reported to the developers and looked at. On the other hand, it could just be a run of bad luck.
Again, in the Wisdom and Intelligence section, you reiterate the incorrect point about wisdom helping in success rates.
In the section titled Who Can Become a Master Jeweler, you state, "I am a druid who is currently at level 255 ... " This is probably incorrect. The highest skill you can achieve in your skills is 250. A geerlok or trophy allows you to modify this by 5%, but it is believed (though not positively confirmed) that all tradeskills are capped at a modified 252. You may also wish to clarify that it's your skill level, not your game level, or you may have a bunch of guildies enquiring how you managed to get to about four times the current level cap in the game!
The section header "Enchancing your Jewelry Skills" contains a spelling error.
When discussing the Geerlok Gem Setter, you say, "For approximately 1,000pp ... " You may wish to mention that the price is highly volatile and varies wildly from day to day and server to server. For example, I sell jewelry geerloks in the bazaar for 150pp, and there are several folks who sell for less than that.
In the section entitled Discovered New Recipes from Planes of Power, you state that "These recipes are from EQTraders, and are not yet confirmed." At the very least, the non-elemental plane recipes have been confirmed. I don't know about the elemental ones yet.
Hope this helps you out.

Thank you for your response to my post! It was exactly what I was hoping to elicit. I am glad you enjoyed the guide and have a few comments to add.
I found that high wisdom did affect how often I succeeded, as well as affecting the rate of skillups. I know that this sounds strange, and that my philosophy differs from a lot of people, but it has worked for me over the years.
When I was learning jewelcraft (granted this was over a year ago - maybe closer to two), you could fashion star rose quartz items, but they would not help you in leveling. When I looked at the boards at the time to see whether this was a bad run of luck, I found that several sites reported this item to be bugged over a long period of time. I never heard of reports fixing this problem, but it is possible that Verant has since corrected it. I am curious if anyone has newer information on this point.
I have a natural skill of 250. Last I heard, there was still a debate of how much a trophy helps you after you reach this level. I have heard that it doesn't help at all, that you top out at 252, or that you top out at 255. Since I have looked at the posts lately, I am re-evaluating my statement of 255, as 252 appears to be the commonly accepted number. Thank you for this point.
There are a few recipes yet in the PoP section of EQTraders that have not yet been confirmed. When they all have been confirmed, I will lift my comment.
Thank you for the point about pricing geerlocks. I think that this is true for a few of the stones listed in my price page as well, such as blue diamonds, diamonds, jacinth, and black sapphires.
If you see any other discrepancies, please let me know, and I will incorporate the changes. Thanks again for your thorough analysis.
Since it is getting a bit late, I will unfortunately have to make most of the changes you suggested either tomorrow or over the weekend. Please feel free to post other suggestions. I greatly appreciate the feedback. Happy hunting to you all.

There are a lot of things that are still unclear about how tradeskilling works. This isn't one of them. Considerable statistical analysis, along with official word from Sony, has confirmed that, at the very least, your skillup stat has no significant effect on success. (The official line is that only your skill level, modified by certain items, affects your success rate. There's still room to argue whether that is strictly true, though not much.)

The "bugginess" that I had heard about here (and personally experienced) was that failure rates were much higher than normal. I actually got a skillup on a star rose quartz item, so I can tell you for sure that that is false (or at least was 6 months or so ago when I was doing most of my JC skilling).
Thanks. I corrected the guide in accordance with a few of the above sections. I am also looking for more information on PoP drops to supplement my "drop list" for jewelcraft components. If anyone can patch the holes, please post and let me know. Thanks!
