Ok, the other day I created an alt to GM Jewelcraft with and here's some basic info.

    from 0-250
Time spent, 5 hours, 57 minutes and some odd seconds
    Cash spent:
    0-200 about 2500pp
    201-250 - about 7250pp

So a lil under 10k was total cost of JC - This character has 255int and 136wis, was getting best price from vendors, and also had a geerlok on the entire time.
For silver and electrum I followed the method of jumping to the next metal once the initial combine became cheaper, and for gold and platinum, I followed the trivial progression as close as possible. All items were sold back to vendor, nothing was enchanted

Could you say a little more, nothing combine by combine but what progression? Also, what items did you have to get this toon to 255 INT, did you spend another 10kpp on that?

whatever site is linked off of here for jewelcraft
for silver and electrum I use the fast and expensive line
for gold and platinum I used the slow and cheap

Lol the gear cost quite a bit, heh however this gear is going to be passed to a number of alts so I can have an army of lvl 1 GM tradeskillers hehe. However, many int and wis casters achieve 255+ in int or wis just through their normal gear over time, so cost of that is a moot point unless someone were as silly as I was. I think I spent like 40-50k on gear? I'm a warrior so found this way to be cheaper than to get my int/wis maxed and quicker than getting the extra aa to do the skills (I'm 51) I'm a GM human smith on my server which is how I can afford it.

Took me about 450pp and about 2hrs time to go from 21 skill to 116 sitting in front of the PoK vendors. Had 219 wis when combining and 105 cha when trading. Didn't enchant anything, sold all successes back to vendors, used the cheap and slow method. I still have to get to 154 to do the Shawl (with geerlok). I didn't have the geerlok doing any of this.

                  I'm a lvl 60 warrior on TP.

I went from ~36 to 242 skill over the last 3 days using max dex.

Total cost (no enchanting) was 30K.

I went from ~36 to 200 on 5K and did not bother using a CHA buff.

I went from 200 - 220 using DEX and CHA buff only and it cost me a fortune. ~15K

I went from 220-242 using DEX, STR, CHA buff and also did the very best I could on INT (~140 or so). Cost was ~5K

I noted a dramatic problem with skill ups when I hit about 200. In some cases I was having to do ~300 combines per skill up.

I plan to parse my logs and post a new thread regarding DEX and skill ups. I don't buy the posted theory any more.

                        hmmm

odd results. Our guild needed/wanted a 250jcer so we grabed a chanter that had 183 jc and put him to work. Gave him 10k and a gearlock with the orders to "go make shiny things."

Couple days later he came back as a 250 JCer. Odd part was when i asked how much of the 10k was left he said all of it. Infact he made about 1k selling back to vendors while skilling up. He said that he enchanted all his bars, but either he just got realy realy lucky or some of you got realy realy unlucky. Maybe both?
