  • Trophy mounted gems drop loc info request/idea

Someone got me curious about Trophies, so of course I hopped over to my beloved and gorgeous EQTC to look it up. ( Velium?? I'm going to start saving my plat NOW..... ^_^ )

These are listed on the Jewelry Supplies By Zone page as not sold by vendors unless sold by player to vendor:
ivory, diamond, blue diamond, black sapphire, jacinth, black pearl

As my roomie, a too-high cleric, needs black pearls for something (??), she was quite distraught that they were not sold from vendors. Her next question was, 'well, where do they drop??'

To which I replied, '.... it doesn't say...'

Since at least four of those (blue/diamond, jacinth, black sapphire) are involved in tradeskills (by way/virtue of being needed for trophies), our first thought was that zone-drop info would be listed somewhere on this site. After brief but seemingly thorough scouring, such information doesn't seem to be here.

NOW, rather than causing Denmother-sama to scream and pull out her hair at my seeming suggestion of 'you should have this info somewhere!', I will instead suggest that if people are interested in offering their information, I can keep a page on my site about these gem drop locs, until such time as Denmother-sama/Ngreth-sama wants to copy it over to EQTC. Info wouldn't even have to be submitted here; people could email me directly, or I could find some other way, a guestbook or forum or something on my site.

Anyone interested? (Have I overstepped a line?)

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And on another yet related note...
While looking to see if anyone had yet posted a topic about this, I ran across this message way down on the second page already... poor Denmother-sama must be overwhelmed ^_^

Gems drop in many places. If you're looking for the *BEST* spots for gems, my personal favorites are Hate (even a single group pulling to zin does well for gem drops, especially blue diamonds) and the guard camp in Sebilis. Mauvin Hall in PoJ is also pretty good lately for blue diamonds.

    Good luck!

      -_-

<-- now feels like an idiot for not having thought of AllaKhazam's.

      Sigh.
One of these days I will have a good idea that no one else will have thought of before. Really. I will. I promise. Someday....
      ^_^

One of these days I will get high enough to get AA points that I can use to increase my base Memory.
      Hah. Don't I wish.
      ^_^ !!

Thank you kindly. Please now ignore further idiotic rantings from a chick who believes (incorrectly) that she has too much time on her hands.

And in the upcoming database, we're going to have cross-referenced sources of items, whether merchant-bought, looted, or crafted.

In the case of gems, though, we're probably not going to maintain a list of specific mobs that drop them.

There are zones where gem loot is more common, so loot sources for gems will probably be something along the lines of a list of zones with "multiple mobs" listed.

On the old message board, we had a thread of the places that loot-only gems dropped often. Perhaps we could start up a new one if folks are interested.

Here's a somewhat more merciful answer for you -

Most dropped gems can be found with a bit of merchant farming.

I did my GM trophy the other night - I had already gotten lucky on the two BDs so all I needed was the others - looking on the merchants in PoK I was able to very quickly find the diamonds, black saphires and jacinths I needed.

Diamonds and jacinith seem to be the most common of the the four I find on merchants.

Black saphires seem to come in waves while I've only been lucky enough to find two BD total to date.

            Another point on vendor farming

Be familiar with the price of buying those dropped gems from a vendor, so you can decide whether you should buy from another player. For the record, blue diamonds are about 263p (and hard to find), jacinthe about 157p, black sapphires 183p, and diamonds 210p. On our server, all but the diamonds are being sold in the bazaar for more than the cost to buy from a regular vendor, and all but blue diamonds are not too hard to find within 20 minutes if you search all the vendors in PoK. Diamonds on the other hand, I buy from other players, as they go for as low as 190p.

By the way, Jacinthe drop periodically in Chardok if you want to hunt for them yourself.

ooooooooo *wants to help with this database!!!!* I need to learn some db'ing skills somewhere, hm. ^_^

And lord no, I wasn't thinking of doing a super-exhaustive list of exactly what mob drops what. I was thinking a table with colums like, 'jewel', 'zone', and 'mob', where mob would have held only entries that dropped given jewel if it weren't a common drop, like ivory from mummies in Unrest (as most of UR doesn't drop ivory, only mummies (or ghouls???)).

Hee, my roomie is, and I'm mildly curious.

Thank you for your enthusiasm! We're to the point that true DB'ing skills have already been used, unfortunately. We're to the point to getting the rest of the data entered and making sure all of the info that's currently on the site makes it into the new one. Denmother Niami asks for volunteers from time to time, so keep an eye on the Denmother's Corner forum up top.

When the site is ready for all to see, we're going to need lots of detail-oriented eyes, though, to help spot things that need updates and little fixes. Even if Denmother can't use/handle more help right away, there will always be something to do after it goes live.

Oops oops. Forgot to comment out my extranious... comments. Not to imply that me, a relative db'ing newbie, should learn here, just that I really ought to learn somewhere. ^_^ just thought to clear that up.

Hah. Wouldn't it be nice to go someplace and click something five times, all Matrix-like. 'You have increased your skills at Programming Databases. Congratulations. Use your skills wisely, Sanna, bring pride on our order,' etc etc.

                    /scratch head

Can anyone find the page Calliopeia was referring to up there? I cannot seem to figure out how to work AllaKhazam's most of the time when I go there. I can't ever find what I want. I have not found a page dealing with tradeskill trophies (the existing tradeskill pages do not seem to cover trophies), and when I attempt to search according to Ingredient, it gives me a 'you have not paid' type message.

YAY FOR DENMOTHER-SAMA for keeping EQTC free!!!

So, in short, we STILL cannot find good zone drop info for the stones, and AK's is beginning to make me /sad.........

Hey! look! a short post from me!

You can't do a component search at alla's, but under 'Tradeskill Search' is a 'Recipes' link. Click on that and then on the Jewelcraft link on the next page. Then the next page shows a long list of jc items. Clicking on one of them will show you a page that lists the trivial and ingredients. Clicking on an ingredient will finally get you to a page listing where it drops.

Or you could just go to the ng camp in Seb, lotsa gems drop there.

if you have a premium membership you can search by item and it will tell you where it drops and if it's known to be used in any tradeskills, not as exhaustive as the boards/charts here....but what is?
