  • Single, Duo, Trio --oh my!

Ok, something else I do not understand.

I understand that we can make all three of the settings, (single, Duo, Trio)

What I don't understand is, what is the advantage of ever making anything but Trio?

Do the stones and settings get higher advantage on the single stone, than when they are set with all three? (i.e. If it is mana +50 for a trio, does it become mana +75 or something) when its set in a single or duo setting?

I've noticed that the recommended level is lower in Duo Settings. Gold Trio has a recommended level of 20, while Gold Duo has a recommended level of 18. I have not tested any of the others, but it is likely to be similar.

The concept I think is that there is a progression in skill required and in level recommended when going from solo to duo to trio.

Similarly, you are correct in that there seems to be no reason to craft anything but trio settings.

There are a lot of things though that you can craft that seem like they would be a waste of materials compared to the alternatives you can make with those parts.

Many times I do thing for "Completeness" sake, even if they are not highly valued.

It should be noted that solo items have a recommended level of five below the trio rings, and duos are two below the trios. So for example, a solo ring may be rec level 15, the duo 18, and the trio 20. The pattern holds for all the jewelery using all the metals, as far as I can tell.

It would be kind of neat if there were some more differences amongst the settings. A Dwerium trio gives 100% of the gem's native stats, but a solo setting could be 102%, for instance.

I could even see a good use for a "Journey" setting, with 4 type-10 slots and a type-11. For instance, a Dwerium Journey setting would give 60% of the gem stats, which would make it a great setting for Faerune, but an awful setting for a taafeite.
I tried combining Celestial Solvent, a Raw Rough Hide, Rough Hide Solution and a Skinning Knife. But the result was such an oxymoron, it opened a rift into another universe. I fell through into one of Nodyin's spreadsheets and was slain by a misplaced decimal.
