  • Amazing, just simply amazing

Before the patch to change the rec lev to the metal you could not find taaffeite on my server less than 25k and usually 30 to 35k. 2 days ago I picked up 17 at 1k each. There are a few hold outs at 10 to 25k but not many. So I managed to fill in all my slots missing taaffeite and now working on alts even low ones. Sometimes the bazzar is just bazar.

    How fairs your server?

Be VERY careful what & who you buy from - there seems to be an exploit atm with Shaped Taafeeites...it may not be limited to those, however....

As a reminder Shaped Taffeeite are not used for any trade skills. They are loot that is designed just to sell to a vendor. Taffeeite (not shaped) can be cut into any of the seven possible cut (square, round, halfmoon, pear, oval, trilion & marquise) type 11 gems to be used for the jewelry items (rings, earrings, bracelets, pendants and viels).

They are just using the shaped taaffeite because it is high value with a high stack size. We are aware and looking into it.

These last two posts are contradictory. Is is shaped or not?

Ngreth is saying that shaped taafeeite is being used by dupers because it stacks and sells for a lot to a vendor. The dupe bug, or whatever they're doing, doesn't specifically require shaped taafe; it just happens to be convenient for them.

Gorse is saying that shaped taafe has no tradeskill use.

And the post that started this was questioning why the regular taaf has had a price drop. That was not addressed by Ngreth.

well *IF* the dupers can dupe any gem, then they might be sving the actual Taafs for sale in bazaar, which is why i told the OP to be careful....be suspicious of sudden "too good to be true" price drops...I dont KNOW that they are duping regular Taafs, but it doesnt hurt to be careful

The prices people sell gems for in the bazaar is not set by the developers but by the players themselves. It was not a price that vendors sold them for but what other players were selling them for.

I was mostly trying to indicate that shaped taaffeite does not effect the taaffeite in the bazaar directly.
That does not mean that that dupe bug is not being used to also make the stuff to sell to players, but it is also possible you managed to find reasonable sellers who did not want to gouge other folks with huge prices. Or they had nothing to compare it to for some reason so sold too low... etc.

Often people say "the price you see in the bazaar is the price something is NOT selling for" I.E. it is still on that person because that person priced it too high. the OP managed to get in and get a good price.

Many possible reasons for the good price.

And though it is rare... the mass amount of NPC's that it can be found on makes it overall not terribly rare... (1 in 700 over hundreds of thousands of NPC's killed makes a largish number)

My only comment was to make sure there was no confusion by Bedazzlerr or any of the reads between Taaffeite (used for trade skills to cut into, Square Cut Taaffeite, Round Cut Taaffeite, Oval Cut Taaffeite, Half Moon Cut Taaffeite, Pear Cut Taaffeite, Trilion Cut Taaffeite or Marquise Cut Taaffeite) and Shaped Taaffeite, which have no value other than what the vendor will pay you for them.

Sometimes People read things here, then recall later that Taaffeite prices are coming down, look i nthe bazaar and fine some Shaped Taaffeite at a price much cheaper than the normal cost of Taaffeites and buy them up thinking they are getting a deal, when in fact they are losing out.

I was just trying to clarify, as there have been cases where people post primal scream material about not being warned about getting the short end of a deal or trying to figure out why they keep gettting a DNC message.

Given that nobody comments on gear being duped, and duping gear is advantageous, does that mean that duping must somehow come from selling/buying with a merchant? Or, instead, is it that duping cash items leads directly to cash without the intervention of the bazaar?

Not looking to learn how to dupe, mind you, but I'm interested in the mechanics of how it works. Can someone dupe an item in their inventory even if it is lore? Should we be looking for people wielding 2 epics, or 2 of whatever their best item is? 2 lore rings/earrings/bracers? If so, that would seem to be an easier check for looking for cheaters. Obviously, if someone who has done this dies, they can't loot both lore items from their corpse, but if they can just re-dupe then delete one and loot the other and dupe when you get a chance.

Taken another way, if plat sellers use to farm items using automated programs to get plat to sell, and now they use dupes to get the same, has the game improved? The plat seller isn't out competing for space/items as in WoW. He/she is just selling without ohter involvement in the game.

Well, enough musing. Interesting topic though.

On a side note, my friend had the bazaar plat bug happen to him years ago. It was the one where suddenly you had an absurd amount of plat added to your character, like trillions or more. He reported it and it was removed, and I think that the GMs worked to get everyone it happened to. It is possible that they didn't catch everyone and there are a few people sitting on these absurd amounts of plat from that event?

I know you are curious, but there will be absolutely no discussion or speculation about the mechanics of duping on this forum.
