Can anyone give some advice on which path I should take for the famous last few steps?
As well, any ideas where I can farm the parts for them? I'd have to either farm money or parts, and i'd rather leave vendors out of the equation. Thanks

There is no longer a vendor path, so it's not in the equation.

I count 142 recipes above 288 skill, so there are many options. Maybe just got to the Jewelcraft Quick List and see what looks possible for you.

      skillups

What I did for the skill ups was set up a buyer while i was at work. I offered to purchase raw shimmering nihilite (310), Uncut black sapphire (300), uncut rubelite (310), as well as regular and blue diamonds. These combines got me to 300.

      Hope this helps

I was a total cheapskate. I was doing LDoNs for a dodge aug and an attack aug, and I looked up the 300 range, and lo and behold, the following FORAGED items can be used to go to 302: from Takish Hiz any LDoN, geode , amethyst (stacks to 100) and polished quartz (also stacks to 100) to make stuff that is not sellable back to a merchant for anything much (1g or something) BUT the only cost really was time and a velium bar which a chanter enchanted for me.

You can sell the items in baz to recoup some plat, but realistically it is not stuff that you are going to get a return on. Be prepared to be out the cost of the velium bars (about 263 plat). These are, realistically, skill up items, not profit items. However, that's pretty cheap to go to 300 if you have the time to forage the components.

Surely do, and people still buy the stuff, esp the Velium Geode Bracelet, sold a stack of them, as a pair makes 16str and 16 sta, so not a bad investment at level one. It's not a profit for the tradeskiller, but it's still recouping a small fraction on my investment. Just the fact that the amethyst and polished quartz stacked to 100 was a godsend.
