  • Old JC Combines

I have not done any JC for some time, but I have been saving up various gems to combine with Platinum bars for skill ups. For example, Star Ruby with a platinum bar creates an item with a trivial of 271.

From what I've read here, it sounds like the platinum bar + various gems combines will only have a trivial of 200, since both gems and platinum bars can be vendor purchased?

I did not know JC was going to be revamped. In April I asked Ngreth if JC was going to be revamped, and he said in the FAR future. To me, the far future is more than seven months. I was not expecting any changes to JC for a year or so. To be fair, however, I did not read the various posts on the SoE forums which gave adequate notice, so that is my fault.

However, it sounds like I will still be able to use all those gems I have saved up, but that the recipes will be different. Is this indeed true?

Also, can someone describe how the various shapes of tools are achieved, and what the different shapes are used for? Or give me a link to that information?

    Thanks!

    Square Cut Tool

Buy a Square Cut Tool from selected Jewelry Vendors:

Combine it by itself in a Jewelery container and it cycles thru the various cutting tools.

Best thing I can recommend is playing with the cheap stuff to understand the process.

Essentially all the old combines are disabled and the new JC system is in place.

The new system you choose the item you want to make (ring, earring, face, necklace, wrist) by purchasing a mold (molds are sold at the same vendors that the tool is pruchased from in the above link).

Then with a JC kit combine:
mold + metal + solo/duo/trio tool (same tool as above, keep converting it in the kit until you get the one you want).

Now you choose the gem you want to use, based on the stats you want from the item.

Then with a JC kit combine:

      gem + tool ......... OR ........... gem + tool + eye glass
(some gems require the eye glass some do not, easy rule of thumb, if the gem costs more than 20pp or is from drops only, it will require an eye glass).

All the new gems are augments now. The user will need to find an aug pool (bazaar, guild hall, guild lobby, crescent reach, butcherblock mountains, etc...) in order to put the gem on the item.

Also try here for a decent writeup:

All that said, I believe all the old Blue Diamond recipes are still active and in place, so that is always an option (albeit an expensive one).

Having a set of 7 metals, 4 designs (earring, face, neck, and rings) and 64 assorted gem and cut styles = only 92 recipes in JC database. With the old and inefficient system you'd have a few (6 or 7 maybe) hundred recipes which wastes data spaces. If SOE were to add in dwerium recipes and assorted high end gems using the old system, the database would grow by a thousand or so recipes.

The new system also allows up to 3 gems per item, old system were mostly one gem, one crap stats.

Most can be sold back. Gems that are mob drops only are not sellable. So as long as you stick to vendor bought gem for cutting for skills, you can sell them back at a loss.
