  • Various Cut Tools

I am confused. The recipes for the "Taaffeite" require various "cut tools" - but I can find no origin for them. If the recipe requires a "half moon cut tool" for example, it says to make the "hafl moon cut tool" you must combine an "oval cut tool" in jeweler's kit. To get an "oval cut tool" you must combine a "round cut tool", etc. etc. on down the list. My confusion comes when I reach the "trilion cut tool". It says to make that, combine a "half moon cut tool" in kit. But that's where I started! It's an endless cycle.

I understand that you obviously must "no-fail combine" the one you have until you get the one you need - but where does the original come from?

Please be kind in your answers and don't laugh too much. I'm relatively new at jewelry and don't know all the ins and outs yet - hehe.

I believe the original bought tool is the Round Cut Tool and the fastest one to get it from is the on in PoT. Then each combine changes the type of cut tool.

I believe that is correct, it took me a little while to figure this problem out myself. It should be sold from any merchant that carries the other supplies for PoR recipes.

Actually this is the perchased tool Square Cut Tool. All others come from this one tool and I do believe there are 7 of them.

Thanks Strokker, could not recall the exact original tool.

It was my way of being "nice" and not making you guys store 7 tools, or add 7 different consumables... there has to be a "difference" in every recipe... so... I came up with the (unoriginal) idea of "tools on a ring" so the "combine" is really you just flipping through the ring of tools to get to the one you want.

It may be 'unoriginal' Ngreth, but any way of saving space with tradeskill tools is appriciated by each and every one of us....

Now if i could find a gnome who can take all the different smithing hammers (I think i have 6 at the moment) and tinker me up a 'Steam Powered Bash Anything Hammer' I would be one happy Halfling!

                  Yes, thank you Ngreth!

And along the same lines as Pootle, I'd be all for a new quest for a "Tradeskiller's Toolpouch". I currently have over 5 10 slot bags full of various tradeskill tools and trophies... to be able to "KeyRing" them would rock.

Most if not all tools return on failure anyway, would be nice to have one item, "Tool Pouch", that auto adds to any combine needing a tool that is in the pouch. To add tools to the pouch once you have one, just do a successful combine and bingo, into the tool pouch it goes.

Good solid quest to get it (no uber raid insanity/keyed zones, please =D ), but major blessing to everyone that seriously tradeskills and many that don't.

Okay, its my dream anyway. No clue how difficult that would be to code in. LOL

Again, thanks for thinking of us, Ngreth!

As mentioned before... Code changes to tradeskills will be slow in coming.

I am currently not able to get significant code changes to tradeskills. Minor possibly, significant no. This is a more significant change that it would seem on the front of things. Additionally it is an extremely large data change. And So if it cannot be done with the current trade-skill system, it is not likely to happen for a while.

a "tool" keyring is far off in the future. Instead I try and come up with things like this

At a certain point though. something like this becomes cumbersome, and will take you so many combines to get to the correct tool that the trouble of "rotating" will not be worth the saved space.

Not sure that would work on the receipes that require 2 different tools to be used.

                        Undoubtedly true.

Even considering that, tho, it would still greatly reduce the number of tools in the bank. There are numerous options to do the same thing. It all depends on what, if anything, is done in that area. Wasn't really trying to twist any arms, just tossing out an idea to help *my* bank of ever shrinking holding. Certainly not because I'm not grateful for the wonderful changes that have been made since I started playing 5 years ago, but because the more I can hold on my main the less alt switching I have to do to get things done. Which is merely a matter of saving time. Heck, I still think having a personal home/workshop would own over all, but doesn't fit with the direction EQ has gone so far, so why flog a dead horse?

Moot regardless. Ngreth continues to stand by "long time coming" and I can live with that. Just don't expect me to quit dreaming. Ya never know, it may be your idea (or someone else's in the community) that next gets put in the game... it has happened before.

How hard would it be to change the molds for post-PoR JC?

One mold for ear, neck and fingers and place them in JC bag or forge and "cycle" it a la the tools?

Well... it does not make as much sense for them.
While I understand the desire for "convenience" there needs to be a modicum of reality.

                            #1 they don't fit on a "ring"

#2 they are semi-consumables. (if you fail a combine the mold is "broken")

Makes sense for the ring issue viz. reality.

Perhaps the additions of a regent (Gnomish Heat Source) and a tool (Chisel) to re-shape the mold in a forge might be closer to the lines of reality. (or even in a pottery kiln/oven to reshape and fire it?

Then again, its getting a little byzantian since all I have to do is pop to PoT to get the molds.
