Can help you guestimate the math. The "best way" is to not do a single combine all the way up, with JC you have a lot of choices and end up changing recipes every 2,3 or 5 points, so it would take a while to do the full calculation.

For quick numbers I'll assume Platinum Ruby Veil to 279 (two item store bought recipe, enchanting the platinum, calling it 240pp per attempt, 225pp buy- back) then Gem Studded Chains to 300 (subcombines and enchanting, but no farming, calling it 250pp per attempt, 22pp buy-back, but I just saved all mine for tailoring combines, you do not know how much I want these chains to stack).

I'll assume 325 primary stat (probably higher)

I'll assume +5% (higher with trophy)

    200-279

    52,425pp

    279-300

    192,393pp

    Total
    244,818pp

That is pretty much worst case scenerio. But a fast push on numbers for you.

the lower skill ups can be done even cheaper if you go in small intervals... take a look at teh Complete tradeskill guide under "guides" for cheapest route

          hmm seems high

I am a rather poor tradeskiller so I doubt I could afford 200k. I would say I have spent around 60K to get from 200 to 289. I hope it doesn't cost me 140k-240K to get to 300.

I've done two big sets of combines
            201-217- 4k.. unenchanted metals
            218-234- 2.1k.. enchanted metals

Seems a big difference, and will save alotta money. Enchanting it is.

As I tried to state in the initial reply, It is faster and cheaper to do it in steps (as well as enchanting the metals).

Also a lot depends on how much luck you have getting the last 10-15 points. I had 6 of my last 15 points go over 80 combines. With failures and sell back loses (even with salvage 2 and JCM3) it cost me a lot of plat.

There are cheaper routes, if you want to take your time and farm / forage your own parts. But, I pushed through the numbers as an easy way to show costs without having the time to do it all right., who knows maybe I'll put together sample runs for step by step, vendor items 200 to 300, varying stats, JCM and modifiers.

So, I'm at the hard part now. I'm 285 at the moment. And since 282 I have done over 400 combines, with 3 skillups.. ouch.

                    I got to 290,
Really cant be bothered with chains, so am buying all BDs i can find at a reasonable price or on vendors!

Going to try Enchanted Plat + BD to 295, then Enchanted Vel + BD to 300

Not sure how this will go, but its worth a try!

296- 300 chains later I skilled to 297. 297- 27 chains later 298. 298- 200 chains later- still 298. Out of money, spent about 250k on chains from 288-298, ouch, not quite my original numbers, having BAD luck with chains really

                        Finally

I'm 300 finally, and it "only" took about 300k worth of chains, they were a pain, went nearly 200 til 299, but 300 only took 9 more.. I have 3 toons with 320 chains each though.

Enchanting won't matter. Enchanted and unenchanted plat both have vendor value of 367. Enchanted and unenchanted velium are both 430.

Oh, I did not know that... thanks for the heads up!

I have a few stacks of enchanted plat and vel left over from my combines up to 290 so once they are used up I wont bother with the enchanting anymore.

Its not really a huge problem these days with the lovely new resting mana regen!!!!

Just a reminder, if you are using a mount (and otherwise meet the resting requirements) you are considered resting, even while casting. I can chain cast Mass Enchant Velium with my moderately (at best) equipped level 68 enchanter without running out of mana (very nearly perfect balance for me on the mana regen).
