Non-enchanted (stat-less) jewellery has no "use" other than for skillups, really. While enchanters can make non-enchanted jewellery, it was primarily a means for non enchanters to also be able to skill up.

Changed the link to here. Now that we have the ability to add notes to the names of items that display in parenthesis without actually being part of the item name, I'm looking for suggestions of a good, very short way to note identically named enchanted vs unenchanted jewelcraft, specifically the old world stuff. So you'd have items like:

Silver Jasper Ring (enchanted)
Silver Jasper Ring (unenchanted)

...only I am hoping for something shorter than "enchanted" and "unenchanted" if we can think of one that people will still readily understand.

I'd love more feedback on the ideas here or new ones!

I was going to suggest (stat) (basic) but I like the (E) for enchanted even better.

One thing to consider is how the recipes look in game. I don't have a JC bag handy, but if the recipes already read "enchanted" and "unenchanted" (or whatever terms are used), then maybe we want to go with that just for consistency.

Therefore, maybe (M) or (Mag) would work, thus reducing the tag at least by 2/3.

When looking to shorten words, replacement with symbolic representation works if the key is well publicized.

Symbols such as single letters, abbreviations, ascii characters (stars, arrows, etc), or tiny graphics (always the last option) can all do the job.

Making the symbol a hyperlink to the key, or making the key pop-up with a hover both work.

In my view, a simple (Magic) on the enchanted version should be sufficient. Any designation on the non-magical version is really not necessary, though pointing out the difference in a legend somewhere would be a good idea to go along with any notation change.

Considering that the "official" designation in-game is (Magical), that would also be acceptable, though I see no point in retaining the "AL". While an English teacher might find the removal of the adjective modifier suffix to be distasteful or worse, I find that not only is it more common in today's usage to simply say "magic" as an adjective directly rather than modifying it to the more proper "magical" but in any usage where length is an issue it would be worthwhile to remove said word lengthener for the sake of brevity. Which I clearly don't do often based on my posts.

The problem, I believe, is accuracy and understandability vs. concise (i.e. short) db-suffixes.

Easiest to understand, but too long and cumbersome.

Most concise, but not easily understood. "E" could stand for several things, and leaving one blank leads to confusion ("If I don't say anything, you'll know what I mean.") What good if only the 1337 get it? They're already skilled enough to not need tradeskill dbs.

My idea for a balance:

Silver Malachite Ring (norm)
Silver Malachite Ring (magic)
Or the longer (normal) for more clarity, if you'd prefer.

I don't mind the noun "magic" being used as an adjective. Language is people communitcating; if enough people change how they communicate, then language changes must, by definition, follow. I know very few who'd call a married couple "Master and Mistress" rather than the corrupted modern form "Mr. and Mrs."

What I don't like is "magic" being used as a catch-all for whatever isn't understood. It just so happens that, under these circumstances, I believe it to be the best word for the purpose needed.
