Evolution alot slower than Skill Ups?

I was just curious if anyone else is finding that the Trophy is lagging alot behind the skillup? I got my Trophy at 250 skill, I now have 291 skill with 68% evolution. I knew it would be pricey to eventually evolve it to the final level, but had hoped I wouldnt have to spend alot to just get it to become even with the skill.

I am experiencing the same issue with the Tinkering trophy. I am at 292 and the trophy is around 50ish. Once I hit 300, I plan on destroying the old trophy and doing the master level task to get the new level. Item evolution is just simply not worth it, in my opinion.

If you have the Expert's trophy, and are at 300, shouldn't it gain 10% per combine to catch up?

If you are one level behind as listed above then the trophy will skill up at a rate 11 times the normal rate, so it will skill up at a rate just less than 1% per combine if you are doing a skill 302 trivial level recipe, up to nealy 3% combine for 350+ trivial level items.

My trophy evolution lagged behind my skip ups but caught up and has zoomed past. I am now at 293 and 94%.

Given how much harder the last 10 points are than the 40 preceding, I would expect the linear growth of the trophy will always catch up unless you are very VERY lucky on skill ups. And if you are, rejoice in the extra evolution skill ups needed (not that many since you will evolve much faster once you ding 300).


EDIT: As expected, my JC trophy evolved well before I hit 300 -- I was on 295 when it evolved. The linear nature of evolution catches up with the extermely non-linear rate of skill ups for all but the luckiest of skiller uppers.

Same for Tailoring

When trophies first appeared, they reached the next level well ahead of your skill, in every tradeskill. Then, with one patch, everything was reversed and ever since trophies lag well behind your skill level. But as noted by others, the trophy catches up pretty quickly once you hit the next "name" level. Worst case I have seen yet happened to me this past week.

Started with skill lvl 295 in tailoring, and Expert trophy evolved about 70%.
Thanks to the miracle of DoN combine bonus, and some major luck, I went from 295 to 300 with just 30 combines! [I luv you RNG ]. Poor trophy still back at 72% tho, meaning about 30 more combines to make (not so cheap at lvl 300) to catch it up. Took a while, but I now have lvl 6 trophy to go with lvl 300 me!

Since good/bad luck cannot be predicted, and the designers do not appear to want trophy evolution tied "precisely" to your current skill level, there is always going to be some difference between the two. IMHO, the current method of making sure the trophy lags behind your actual skill lvl is much better than the original situation where you could have a lvl 6 trophy while you were only lvl 290 or so in skill...

Trophy level up at a consistent rate based on the level of the combine vs your skill (no more that 100 points above your current skill if below 300).

You got lucky yes, but nothing has changed with the mechanics of evolution of the trophy.


Congratulations on the skill ups. was leveling my chanter and took 477 to get from 291 to 300 on JC (with 296 taking 150 combines exactly) but 299-300 was only 7 combines!

Based on VERY extensive experience with trophies at all levels, from the very first days they were out (and some components were 'impossible' to find), as well as continuing to the present, I cannot agree with you at all on this. There most definitely was a change in the rate of trophy evolution, quite noticeable right after a patch. Of course, I am just an observer and not a developer, but doing tens of thousands of combinations in the past couple months gives me some reasonable perspective. Things do not go from "every trophy leveling up and freezing before you reach that same level" to "every trophy lagging your level gain significantly" by sheer chance. And when I say "every" I mean with NO exceptions. I would be willing to bet 10pp on this

All my trophies have been evolving exactly as published, and I make sure to check evolution status. I start every combine on a new recipe, close, open check, etc... until the patter is established. For the Jewelry trophy 6/7 (300 skill) combining Gem Studded Chain (trivial 335) it takes 10 combines to get 1% on the trophy. (I have seen some reports of 1050, so it'll be a bit to test where I see the first one that requires 11 combines, but probably around combine number 200, if it factor's in, but nearly all bank spaces are full at the moment, having completed and banked 475+ chains getting to 300.

What I would like to see would be some sort of cumulative skill-up coding, something like +1% (or perhaps even +.5%) chance of skill up per successful non trivial combine. Having experieced a run of 488 non-trivial combines (for fletching) once, and other people even higher runs, it would sure make life easier, and more importantly not so scary know that you WILL get better.

I understand that it cannot and does not need to be trivialized, but it does not make sense when a lucky string can grant in a 30 combines, what takes others literally thousands. A cumulative skill up chance makes sense too, because you gain skill through repetition.

OK, after more forum reading I think I see what happened. Just by chance, I decided to skill-up Baking, Brewing, and Pottery first, then Smithing, Tailoring, and Tinkering. Apparently, there is a difference in Skill-up rate (according to some posts) which makes the first set I tried move up slower than the second group. Hence, the trophy 'leveled' before me on the first group and well after me on the second group. Just by chance, the break between them happened around a patch, and the difference was so dramatic that I assumed a change was made. Looking forward to making Research lvl 300 with trophy still 50% evolved, if the posts are correct .
