  • Skill-up path from 280?

A friend of mine gave me several stacks of geodes that he's been saving for JC, since they have a trivial value over 300. But, when combined with an expensive velium bar, they have no NPC resale value (like just a few plat). It's a huge waste of money.

The (very nice) tradeskill guide suggests Velium Ruby Veils to 282. Do these have a decent resale value (to the NPC traders)?

Next it suggests Gem Studded Chain. I know these can be used in tailoring (and I may save some for myself). Do they sell well in the bazaar? Do they stack? Do they sell well back to NCPs?

Or is there a new recipe from recent expansions that provide a better route?

    Thanks!

Yes, the resale on those is ok. You won't lose a lot. But then comes...

    1) Not really.
    2) No.
    3) DEFINITELY NOT. They cost a bit over 250p per combine to make. They resale for (I think) 24p.

As far as I can tell, there are several recipes over 300 in the expansion. They all require a dropped stone from the new zones. I haven't actually BEEN to the new zones, yet (been working on trophies), so I can't tell you what the drop rate is like or how hard the mobs are.

I remember that some of the items that had no resale value to a vendor had a decent tribute value. So, if you are a tribute user, that might be a way to use them.

I did diamond and blue diamond items to skill up because of the resale value of the finished products.

They have done this starting with the velium combines. NO Resale value.
As stated above some of the items have had decent tribute values assigned.

I used scale ore/palladium combines till about 296 then got stupid and spent the platinum to make gem studded chains till 300.

Now im broke and need to skill up my trophy...

I am an impatient skiller-upper, and getting plat is never really tha hard for me, so whenever there is a low # of combine, low amount of farming/vendor-diving/barter option, I take it.

              So From 280 to 290, I'd recommend:

Ruby + Velium to 282 (and if you get a jacinth, jacith+plat also works well)

Black Sapphire + Plat to 284

              Diamond + Plat to 287

              Diamond + Velium to 290.

I set up a buyer to get the non-vendor-sold gems at the vendor price and ended up with 80 more diamonds than I needed for those 6 skill ups. I plan to resell them at the same price I paid to let someone else have the advantage of them.

I'm now gathering up Blue Diamonds for the

              BD + Plat to 295

              BD + Vel to 300.

If I get Scale Ore, I'll use some of that too but it's hard to beat the resalability (and the easy 2-item combined) of the basic rings.

On my enchanter, I tried using Gem studded chains b/c my main was planning to work tailoring from 200 to 250 afterwards, and I got zero skill ups in something like 80 combines, stuck them on a storage alt and went back to Blue Diamonds. Now that Guiscard is 300 tailoring, I don't even have that option as a reason to go to the chains.
