  • Making my own artisan seal for baking trophy.

Maybe I'm crazy, but based on other posts here, it seems I could make my own artisan seal for less than 4k.

I've saw a post that said 0-100 JC skill costs about 350. How much higher do I need to go to get a good success rate on mounted gems? Under 1K to do it I hope?

Another post listed vendor diving prices for the 4 gems at around 200pp each. It seems I could get them all for under 1k. Assuming some failures, maybe 1.5k.

So assuming my pottery is high enough to make a high percentage on the seal, I could make the whole thing for 2.5k. If I have bad luck, I should still make it in 4k.

Am I being reasonable? I've not started my JC yet, so I don't have a good feel for it yet. And I don't mean to deprive anyone else of profit, I just love doing it myself.

Mounted gems trivial in the high 100's. So I'd say maybe 1k if you have a high wis or int would do it.

Depending on your server, the prices of the drop only gems will change unless you get really lucky and are able to purchase the gems off of merchants.

Either way, though, you still have to pay for the basic ingredients:

      8 bars of Velium - 2100 pp
4 Rubies - 525 pp (for the Purified Mana Vial)

Now that excludes the "other junk" you have to throw into the combine - for baking that's a dairy spoon in addition to the block of clay etc. Dairy Spoons are cheap to make (unlike poor Brewers who have to buy a spare Corking Device).

Now Diamonds, off merchants, sell for 210 pp, Black Sapphires are about the same, say 200 pp, and Jacinth as well. I don't know anyone who'd be so foolish as to sell a Blue Diamond to a merchant so at the cheapest (depending on server) you're looking at 400 pp unless you get the drops yourself.

So assuming you can enchant your own vial of mana and buy these gems at their cheapest, you're still looking at 3635 pp or so at best. And that's also assuming you succeed on the first try; I've a friend with Brewing 250 who's now failed the final combine seven times.

The short and sweet is, unless you're planning on mastering a ton of tradeskills, it's probably not worth it to make your own seal. Buy the ingredients and have a friendly crafter do the work for you. There's a good chance you'll have to do it more than once anyway.

I find the loot-gems on merchants all the time on the FV server so if you are based there do be sure to check them when traveling the lands. Also you can kill some creatures in EW for their tusks which you hand into one of the Othmir in CS for a random rare gem. It's very late and I'm trying to finish up laundry and ironing so for the life of me I cant remember what to kill and who to turn the tusks into right off hand -- someone help me out here on the actual details for that quest. ops:

If any one else wants to know the quest information, here's the Allakhazam link:

          http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?quest=962

Now if I could just find a quest to get the velium bars.

BTW, based on the number of tries I will probably need, I will attempt my own seals. Based on the numbers above, though, makes it look like 4k is a good deal for the seal.

Wow... I find blue diamonds all the time on merchants.... They sell for around 262pp if memory serves me. MUCH cheaper than any player ever sells them for on Lanys server.

Thanks all for the information. I found my diamond and black sapphire on vendors. I found jacinth and blue diamond 240 and 250 in bazaar. (I did fork over 750 for a vial of purified mana. I just wanted to get it over with.)

And I had a really good day, not just in the bazaar, but in the oven. My first seal became my GM spoon on the first try. (I'm waiting for the hate mail.)

                  trophy

even if you find all the components on vendors (which is cheapest way) it's going to run:

                  8 bars of velium: 2099
                  4 rubies: 524
                  blue diamond: 262
                  diamond: 210
                  black sapphire: 183
                  jacinth: 171
                  other stuff about 5p

                  =3454

That is as cheap as it gets, because that is zero failure as well.

You probably could make it to mid 100s in JC on 1k, if you stick close to trivials, so to lessen failures. But unless you really want to work up the skills to perhaps use them by themselves.... I don't think I would do it just for a trophy and on a limited budget.

But then again I had quit JC never to return again, it was at 210...and my next skill was pottery at 203 and I could get 250 in JC a lot quicker than in pottery which requires stuff that can't be easily purchased in bulk. Or just time consuming stuff like making celestial essence over and over...not like JC which is just buy a stack of this buy a stack of that combine it all and sell...repeat. So I dumped 6k on JC and did my trophy in that, the 5% in JC I don't really care about, but I wouldn't have been any more impressed with 5% to pottery. Geerlock does the same.

But if you are like me and hate to spend more than you really need to.....only reason why some of my skills exist. I didn't want to buy all the components for the earring of the solstice, so I worked a lot of skills in order to make 4 of the 9, and trade across for the other 5. Well and back then parts were still ranging over 12k total, and I was broke. Twas almost necessity in order to even get one. Glad I did though my skills now are very profittable.

Umm... I went from 21 to 199 in JC for JUST under 2kpp.

I'll even break it down further to say that I went from 21 to 191 JC for 1k, and then 192-199 cost another 1k.

Nice job Impudent. I myself stopped at 118 on 640pp. After all I've heard, I'm amazed how cheap JC is to advance. I hope to soon fork over the money to make the jump to 200.

with shared bank slots, JC has become quite a bit more trivial... twink an ENC toon and PL it up to 24 and you're good in enchanted JC metals to 207.

I have lost approximatly 100pp from 40 to 119 in JC since I started enchanting my metals AND doing combines within 2-3 points of trivial. It's a lot of work... but cheap... and fun to see items with actual stats
