  • JC for non-chanters

I hope to GM jewelcrafting when I get some AAs, but I'm a druid. So I wonder about the sellback price on the items when I get to Platinum and things really start to get expensive. How much is the difference in the price between enchanted and non-enchanted results on Platinum items ? Is it even worth losing karma from pestering my chanter friends ?

It depends upon the gem/metal combination, but I've found at maximum charisma and faction that if you don't enchant, you lose about 5% for every successful combine or a little bit more. If it is enchanted, you make about a 5% profit, which about balances your losses for failures if the RNG doesn't set out to hate you. So it all depends on your bank account, but losing an assured 5p + on every combine hits some people a little too hard.

It all depends on how friendly your enchanter is I suppose. Paying one to enchant really isn't worth it for skillup purposes.

      I'm a cleric and I just GM'd jewellry craft a day ago...

The sellback on all of the platinum+ items started at 104 (in shadowhaven) for me. Maxxing at 106.

I made sure to use the next trivial gem, instead of skipping to the highest, to make the most successes for sellback.

The end cost, after selling back successes, was approximately 7k pp from 183-250.

      Good luck =)

With sufficient charisma and faction, the loss per (successful) unenchanted platinum bar is about half a pp -- the few unenchanted platinum/malachite combines I did sold back for 104pp 5gp and change. (Materials cost of 105pp 0gp 5sp 2cp, I think.)

If you've got plenty of cash to start with, you should be fine; just make sure you buy a geerlok to keep failures down and get your int/wis (presumably wis, as you're a druid -- if your int is higher, you need to seriously rethink your equipment choices  ) as high as you possibly can, since every additional combine you need to do is losing you money.

If you have to pay to get the metal enchanted (and if you want to stay on the good side of your favorite enchanters, I recommend that you offer them something in return -- enchanting platinum runs through a mana bar pretty quick...), I wouldn't bother with that. Just make sure you have plenty of cash to burn before you start.

My character is an enchanter but I didn't want to spend the time required to enchant all the metals. 0-250 cost me 8k-11k, I forget exactly, but it only took 6 hours to complete.

At 225 mana each (4500 mana/stack), paying an enchanter to do your metals will take a long time for both of you. Depends on whether you want to take the loss per combine or not I guess. I was about 2k ahead after going from 193-250 enchanting everything.

Then I had 5 trivial failures in a row the other night, that 2k buffer is going fast

Even as an enchanter I didn't find it worth my while to enchant the plat bars. I did the electrum and silver since they didn't take much mana and most of the gold but for plat I would have had to spend too much time sitting there medding and not combining.
