  • effect of stats on skillups & JC

I'm thinking about taking a tradeskill to 250 with my Bard and it seems that JC is "easiest" (ha!) to do.

    1) In the FAQ's I read that for JC Int + WIS or DEX determines skillups. In some other thread I read someone said it's Int+Charisma.

So...what's the verdict here? What stats are needed for JC?

    2) Whenever I see threads about people posting their "path" and the number of combines needed for skillups they write "that's with 255{/305/...} Int/Wis"
    Now...as a non-uber and not-so-highlevel Bard I have some trouble here.
I can get Int to 160 (maybe I can get some more int items, but it seems everything I could still buy is a few k pp just for some more int...doh) and dex to 250+.
How large would the effect of the lower stats be for skillups? Is it like that if you have half the stats you take double as long or more or less?

sigh...I really don't know how to read that:

Jewelcrafting skill increases for jewelcrafting are determined by INT, WIS or DEX, whichever is higher.
Does this I mean Int+Dex or Int+Wis decides about skillups or the highest of the 3? So...if I had a high dex I wouldnt have to bother with Int?

I just did JC with my bard. Had dex at 280 and wis around 143. Took almost 6000 combines and about 100 combines per skillup at levels 190-250. Also failed about 7-10% of the time. very expensive 20k or so. Makes me wonder if dex really matters since my wis/int was so low. To answer your question, if your dex is high, the other 2 do not matter. I dont know if it is really true based on my results.

ouch. 100 combines per skillup would certainly be a pain "up there".

I am pretty sure that dex has nothing to do with JC skill ups, only for fletching. Int/Wis are the only stats used for JC as far as I know.

My understanding for JC is that it is WIS or INT only. The higher of the two is the one that matters, the other one makes no difference. For tradeskills that have an alternate stat, such as STR for smithing, then, the highest of WIS/INT/Alternate is the only one that matters.

So...how can one know that For sure?

because what you are saying is, that the holy FAQ's to which every newbie is sent here in the forum are wrong ;-)

              http://mboards.eqtraders.com/upload/...hp?threadid=19

              The basics
INT & WIS whichever of the two is higher will affect skill increases when practicing any tradeskill. The higher either your INT or WIS is, the greater the chance you have for a skill gain while tradeskilling.

CHA higher charisma, along with faction, will affect your buying and selling prices with merchants.

              Exceptions to the above
Smithing skill increases for smithing are determined by INT, WIS or STR, whichever is higher.

Fletching skill increases for fletching are determined by INT, WIS or DEX, whichever is higher.

Jewelcrafting skill increases for jewelcrafting are determined by INT, WIS or DEX, whichever is higher.

Now in case it is how you say, only INt or wis decide....how big would the difference be approximately between somebody with let's say 250 Int and somebody like me with 170 or so.

You will see a big difference specially on higher end combines. I noted that when I had 250ish wisdom and 300ish wisdom makes noticeable difference in skill up. So, if someone wants to do some experiment, I am you can try it with low dex (150ish) and high dex (250 plus) to see if it makes any difference.

Remember that KEI is a great, long-lasting INT booster. Make sure you get it before doing a skillup session.
