  • Pipes and Pottery

Me and a friend where joking about this the other day and it got me thinking about it and its not that bad of an idea.

Pipes would be a high end pottery item that would be Secondary/Face. they also would be like stiens as that they could be encrusted with gems but the part that would set them apart would be when in the face slot they would have right click effects that could be recharged with NPC sold tobacco,. but part of the combin could be that you had to use the spell that the right click was going to be.

    what do you all think?

I doubt Sony would go anywhere near smoking/tobacco in a game that children play. They would get such huge bad press it wouldn't be worth it, however roleplay-like it may be.

I'm not disagreeing really with the "Sony won't want to go there" theory but, they DO have alcohol and you can get drunk from it. There is just as bad a stigma on it as there is smoking. There is also a LOT of adult content in quests and even NPC dialogs that could be refuted as unfit for children. But who knows. What is bad in one persons eyes isn't in another.

I think it would be neat but I don't know if they would be able to code the duel effect/no effect thing dependent on which slot it is in. I think that would turn out to be rather difficult.

If they do have smoking in the game, I would think it would be cultural limited to halfings and dwarves, a la Tolkien.

Gandalf smoked, as did Sarumon, both human wizards. The tobacco that was favored by most was grown by the Hobbits, but, others did smoke it.

What Tinile said. Verant said almost exactly that, long ago.

I ran into this a while back. A log of a chat on the #everquest IRC channel was posted to EQStratics on 7/4/2000. I thought it was quite interesting.

<Tsolzyob>Does Brad McQ ever come to this chat..?
                  <Aradune> sometimes, yeah
                  <Aradune> like, for example, now

<ReefSmoke> aradune why doesnt dok's cigars sell cigars??
<Aradune> reef: they made us take that stuff out. *sigh*
<ReefSmoke> aradune did you all plan on players being able to smoke in the beginning?
<Aradune> reef: yeah. halflings with pipes..i mean, come now, it would have been cool
