  • Curiousity about best trade skill to do as class..

Hiya's i just made a Barbarian Warrior lvl 7 atm ok here's the quest i wanted to ask. As a warrior the three main trade skills woud be. Smithing, Tailoring , an fletching? if this is so what is the main ones for other classes? Like Tailoring for Druids i'm just curios about this as i bet everyone else is at one time =) any info would be helpfull. Thanks.

    Sincerly yours,

I’d have to say that the “best” trade skill for your class is the one you enjoy doing the most. Some trade skills are restricted by race, only gnomes can be tinkers, or class, only shaman can be alchemists, but otherwise anybody can do any general trade skill they enjoy doing. The only other exception I can think of would be jewel craft. Anyone can do it, but enchanters have an easier time of it.

Caster classes have an easier time with trade skills in general since gaining skill in all trade skills is based upon intelligence or wisdom, whichever is higher. Casters already have equipment that will increase these stats so gaining skill is easier for them. For non-casters, smithing will also use strength for skill increases and fletching will use dexterity for skill increases. So these trade skills are easier for non-casters to pursue. But there’s nothing stopping a warrior from becoming a baker or brewer, for example. You either live with slower skill gains or you buy equipment to use to increase either your wisdom or your intelligence when your doing trade skills. You can also buy stat food and drink to help boost your stats. And if your level 45 or above you can also get KEI for an added boost.

Don’t base your trade skill choices upon your class. Base them upon your enjoyment of the trade skill. You’ll be much happier for it.

If you are going by best in the sense of what is there to make using that skill for your race (I got the feeling this is what you meant by making the woodie/tailoring reference) then Barbarians have cultural smithing they can do. The stuff you can make via this is pretty good to boot.

As for best for you that is up to you.

        Hello

As a fellow barbarian I can give you a little insight into tradeskills and hopefully you can still enjoy what trades you want to do.

Before we start Yes there are 'hell levels" in tradeskill training and they come basically between 200 - 220 mainly so prepare for them. Thats when your skillup point will be like 1 out of every 60 attempts.

Fletching is for making those great arrows and bows you will someday need at level 65. But heads up..if you are planning on doing it by buying the supplies form 210 to 250 it will cost you 150k as an example to make bows to get there.

Smithing..ahhh one of the LONGEST and more painful skills to learn but got through with a starting bank of 200k (from fletching plat made) and at the end at 250 had a profit of 83k (this was doing mistletoe sickle cutters). But beware..have a lot of patience when you do this skill.

Brewing I would say anyone can do within ones day if they want to but also requires a lot of patience and not that much plat either compared to the above mentioned skills. At the end of it be lucky if you get 500pp per combine you do for others.

Pottery is not really hard but takes a while to do to 250 and about 105k total investment. Yes steins, diety port stones, and other things are nice but unless you have access to the elemental planes its hard to make the uber end stuff like Ceramic Totem of rathe or xegony. They sell for 125k each.

Okay I also have 199 in Jewelcraft and 188 or was that 184 in tailoring.

No matter very soon I will be Grandmaster in both of those also.

A suggestion to you for now. Do one very hard tradeskill and do it up to 250. Then change over to a very easy one and do that one up to 250. It gives you room to breathe both plat wise and insanity wise

Now if you are expecting to get rich off any tradeskills please think again. It won't happen. You can make a decent amount of plat though.

On a bad day I make 10k and on a good day 20k+ so its not all bad but remember thats with 4 GM's in various tradeskills. But I take that plat and sink it into the next tradeskill but at the end of the road when I have 7 GM's in the tradeskills all the plat I make then will be profit.

One last hint. Don't listen to all those who say oh bring str up and dex up and this up and that stat up. If your main goal is to bring your tradeskill up quickly then get a seperate set of armor (not that expensive to do) with wisdom stats. No other stat will raise your tradeskills (any of them up) faster.

I learned the hard way during smithing bring str up to 290 and only had wisdom at 135 ouch. Lets see 1 out of every 124 attempts was a skillup. Okay so what did I know? Remember that barbarians have and always will have low intellect. When I switched to a set of wisdom armor (unbuffed 270 as a warrior) 1 skillup point out of every 18 attempts was a lot better.

        Hope this helped ya,

as a fellow barbarian, here is some info

fletching, ok, any warrior can do it.

brewing, nothing special, any race has the same advantages

            pottery, see brewing

baking, if you roleplay, baking has the Halas 10lbs pie, everyone can make it, but it originated (roleplay wise) in Halas, home of the barbarians.

tailoring, our cultural tailoring has a very low trivial mid teen, and the barb cultural tailored items are worse than banded armor, as far as stats go, heck, the main component is ruined pelts. so high end tailoring does not benefiet you solely because you are a barbarian.

Smithing, our barbarian cultural smithed armor is decent and highend. so if you want to do something that benefiets barbs, smithing is it.

I would try a few skills. Relistically you need them anyways. Smiths need to know taioring, brewing, and pottery. Tailors need smithing and brewing. So raising your skills in all trades is generally a requirement anyways. I do realize that you can but the supplies permade by other tradeskillers, but REALLy cuts into your profit margin. I for one refuse to pay 25 to 35 pp per leather padding (granted, I have sold them for 25 pp).

Smithing is an excellent skill for barbarians. Their cultural is quite nice, and as a large race you can get the 10 pct skill mod belt. THis means that you only hve to skill to 230 to reach the maximum modified skill. You also get easy skillups on EE rings from 200 to 212. That means that you only have to farm Shadow Scream from 188 to 200. That's realatively painless IMO when compared to other classes. After 212 you will have a modified skill of 231. You will have no trouble doing mistletoe cutting sickles from there, and should have a high enough success to turn a slight profit. Then it's just 18 skillups on sickles to reach max modified skill at the end of which you should have turned a tidy profit allowing you to upgrade weapons etc.

Basically as a barbarian you are in the bst possible possition to become a smith. It will require a minimum of farming. You can make gear that you can use. A full set of cultural plate sells for about 100 k on my server. If you can make it for yourself it costs way less than that and you can always sell some to keep the bank account up. Of course you will need to lvl some before farming for shadowscream unless you twobox a high lvl toon that can do all the killing for you (or you have some REALLY good friends).

              That's just my 2cp though.

              Basically

              1) do something you enjoy.
              2) Do something you can use.
              3) Do something that will make you feel good. (I love being able to make armor and stuff for my friends)

                my choice

If you are only going to GM 1 skill I suggest Baking. The Reason being that with any other skill you can always buy the top of the line results. But with Baking Bristlebane's Party Platters are NO DROP so you must make them yourself.
