  • Questions for the Guru's..newbie alert

Greetings all I am new to the site. *waves*

Ive recently been bitten by the "tradeskill bug". I have a few questions on some things and i would greatly appreciate what everyone has to offer.

I have a dream that one day i might be able to post as a member of the 1750 Club. I know that it certainly is a long long long long road, but they do call the game Evercrack, I mean Everquest. And im really in no rush.

Right now my main(that im playing the most) is a Lvl 49 Iksar monk. Although i do enjoy playing the monk i would like to a more "group" orientated character. One that will tradeskill and have something to offer in hunting groups...With that in mind i would like to tradeskill/play on ONE character.....

I have a Wood Elf Druid (22) and a Wood Elf Bard (12). I enjoy both characters and the style of both characters. What i would like to know is...Between the druid OR the bard, will i have an advantage (or easier time HAHA) playing one character over another, as i try my tradeskilling?

is one character better suited to do tradeskills?

From my understanding, the bard's forage skill maxes out at like a 55 skill, but the druids forage skill will go much higher...will the foraging skill make a difference??

My Bard worships Rallos Z, will that make a difference???

    any advice would be helpfull.....
thanks for taking the time to read my post....

    X.

Your druid will be able to imbue emeralds, which will be handy for some tradeskill items. Your druid will have better foraging, and, quite likely, better Wis or Int than the bard, which will make skilling up easier for the druid.

One of the better classes for tradeskills is an enchanter, as there are a number of items that only enchanters can make required for most tradeskills.

In the end though, you need to play what you will have the most fun playing.

Believe it or not, either the druid or the monk will make a decent tailor. Wood elves have cultural stuff, and the Iksar have that nice line of robes from Legacy of Ykesha.

As a tailor, high levels help. It makes it easier to gather materials-you can always use the druid as a forage mule for tailoring components, then just transfer them with shared bank slots to the Iksar as needed.

I'm voting for your druid, and here's why:

1.) imbuing emeralds is definitely a plus. It will help with several of the skills over the course of your career.

2.) Foraging: I realize that your Iksar can also forage, but you can get foraging to a level that it will really help you with your druid.

3.) Farming: You'll need to be able to slaughter lower level monsters en masse for their tradeskilling goodness A Monk of your level would be able to do that as well, but not quite as quickly as a Druid who has the tracking skill.

4.) Soloing: Depending on your circle of friends or your guildmates, you might have times where you need to go get an item on your own.

5.) Wisdom: With a druid you won't need a seperate suit of gear for tradeskilling. You already want to have max wisdom just for your class, so in the long run it will save you money.

        and last, but not least...

6.) Ports! PoP has reduced the amount of ports that are needed by the regular player, but ports are invaluable for a tradeskiller. For example, you want to do shadowscream armor and need swirling shadows... It's much easier just to port to twilight sea than run there from Shadowhaven.

        Hope this helped

The only thing we know for SURE about the usefulness of a high forage skill is that it reduces that chance of getting nothing when you try. Many people are convinced or nearly convinced that with a skill of 200, you'll get SOMETHING every time. Outside of that, there are a lot of theories.

I think the skill is VERY helpful to have at 150+ if you are going to use a lot of foraged items. Even if you are just looking for rare items (say 1 in 20 as a guessed chance), than the more times you get SOMETHING the more chances you have at getting a rare. I seem to remember that at 75 I was failing 3-4 out of every 5 tries. At 190, I was failing something like 1 out of 20 tries.

Just a word of note; 175+ is SLOW moving on the skill-ups so if you are impatient, save up some practice point and buy it up.

Can only use practice points for the first 21 points of most tradeskills.

Oh, and woodelf cultural tailoring is a joke. There's no possible way you can use it as a viable skill up path. The excellent sabertooth hides are FAR too rare a drop to skill up on. On the whole, though, I've found it very convenient to use my woodelf druid as my tradeskill character. Foraging helps in many many instances, being able to imbue my own emeralds is very nice, and being able to port myself around to wherever I want to go farm is also wonderful.

Foraging is a skill, not a tradeskill.

                  Buying Skill

                  Agreed.

Foraging CAN be bought up to 200 skill.

there are plenty of advantages to the wood elf druid as a tradeskiller, and i know all about em since i am one! on the other hand... at this point in my tradeskilling i buy most everything i need in the bazaar for 2 reasons:

                      1) everything's available at one point or other

                      B) i prefer to do stuff other than foraging and imbuing with my EQ time.

That said, it's handy to be ABLE to do so many things myself. Just keep in mind that the bazaar (as well as finding newbies and paying them well to help you out) can be equally effective. Really depends more on how you prefer to spend your time.

And I'll second that notion of Gnome Enchanters being one of the very best tradeskill choices. If only i could stand playing an enchanter for more than 2 hours

I have to disagree... I'd level the bard. Why? Everyone agrees that higher levels = easier farming and faster cash. Well, druids get the shaft in the high level game. Bards are welcomed with open arms into planar groups where druids are often passed over. Also, bards can solo. They can track to a skill of 100. They can forage to a skill of 50.

                        This is my opinion.
