  • Possible fix for no drop items in forges/etc?

While messing around with the newby quests before the crash bug totally locked me out of EQ, I had a crash occure in the middle of putting my items into the forge to hit combine and get my peice of newby armor.

I had put the no drop peice in and was in the process of putting in the armor mold when the crash occured.

When I logged back in, cussin a blue streak at the lost of a hard to find drop, I was pleasantly surprised - the armor mold was still on my cursor but the no drop part was back in my inventory.

The fact that the armor mold was still on my cursor leads me to beleive that Sony MIGHT, not has, but might have put in some kind of coding so that if a forge or simular container closes with no drop items in it then these items are put back into the inventory of the owner of said item.

Due to the fact that I had crashed, I don't know if this is only for crashes/LD or for any time that the container closes with no drop items in it, but if there is a safe way to check this out, it would be great if someone could verify that this is indeed a feature and not a chance peice of luck/bug/fluke on my part in this only situation.

Again, let me please emphasise, DO NOT EXPERIMENT WITH ANYTHING THAT YOU CAN NOT EASILY REPLACE, this might have been a fluke of luck on my part and not a new feature.

I would suspect that when you crashed, you reverted to the most recent save of your character, which happened to have an item on your cursor and the no-drop item in your inventory.

That said, I'd be very interested to know if there has actually been a change here. I'm just not holding my breath.

I tried to test this using a couple of no-drop forages from Jaggedpine.

First, I put a Shadowjade Fern Seeds into a forge. I backed away until the forge closed. My seeds did NOT land in my inventory.

Then, I put a Shadowjade Moss into the forge. I foraged, getting an ancient tarnished coin, which I dropped into my inventory. I /q out. When I logged back in, the Moss was in my inventory, as was the coin. This implies to me that I did NOT have a rollback, as I would not have had a coin the last time I saved. Instead, it looks like the no-drop item popped into my inventory when I went "LD."

It definitely looks like something may have changed in how world containers deal with no-drop items when the "owner" goes LD.

Caveat: not proven, go ye cautiously....

It wasn't a roll back - the fact that the item was on my cursor AFTER I had put another item in the forge and that the forge item was in my inventory was the part that I found significant - if it had rolled me back then the item that was on my cursor at time of crash would have been in my inventory as well since it was on my cursor AFTER I had put the first item into the forge.

I went LD a while ago with some items in a forge and found them in my inventory when I returned. I think this fix has been in place fora while.

LOL - I wonder if Sony knows/intended for this feature with going LD and having items in a forge or if this is an unintended bug?
