Hmm... MQ'ing is not "intended" ... so this is a touchy subject.

    However....

Depends on what you have, and what the other person is doing.

Here's what I did. (since I presume, as the gems are dropable, you have the gems and the other person has the No Drop part)

My good friend had an extra Torn Enchanted Silk Bracer that he wanted to give me.

I quickly bought the 3 quest gems.

He handed in the bracer, but didn't hit "give"

I handed in the 3 gems, but didn't hit "give"

He hit "give" and got "where's my gems"

I hit "give" and got the Beguilers Wristguard.

Who you give what depends on what class you are and what item you are trying to get.

    Good luck.
In My (Not Always) Humble Opinion, except where I quote someone. If I don't know I say so.
I suck at this game, your mileage WILL vary. My path is probably NON-optimal.

Thats actually a messy way of doing it.

Its better to just have the person with the bracer complete the transaction and back away before you turn yours in. Doing it your way can cause lag to cause the bracer to go to the wrong person.

Weird thing about MQing is that it's definately not intended, SoE takes steps to stop it, yet they don't change old quests where it runs rampant (Mage epic peice off the pegasus or Velious armor), nore do they completely remove it (The second of each of the manual quests out of PoK is MQable)

I'm particularily joyful that none of the Beastlord epic can be MQed.

MQ's are intended and perfectly acceptable. This was specifically stated
when the changes to NPCs eating items went in.

Yes, some quests are MQ-able, some aren't. Especially when one of the components is a rare, class-specific drop which would rot if MQ was not possible.

First of all, both you and the other person must have good Coldain faction. Kindly+ works best, though amiable generally works too.

So, once you get the three gems needed, head to Thurgadin, find the quest NPC for your class. Have the person holding corroded piece turn it in, then you hand in your gems (unstacked).

No it wasn't. Disproving your theory is the fact that GMs will NEVER reimburse items lost due to MQing a quest.

I'd be really leery of doing an MQ with someone who was that vague about faction...

Here's how I sell my MQs (let's assume a mage wristguard):

1 - I get paid first (not relevant here, but there we are).
                2 - We group together.
3 - Once I verify payment, we both go and hail the quest giver for the piece we want. They will tell you what class they are for.
4 - I then give the trigger phrase ("I am a magician") to get the exact name of the piece.
5 - We both say "what wristguard" (the piece name) - this verifies that we BOTH have the faction needed to do the quest properly (and we can both see that we got the right faction message) AND verifies that we have the right gems (which are part of the "what wristguard" response).
6 - I then say, ok you have the right gems? When they say yes (or link them), I hand in the quest piece.
7 - I let them know in group that the quest NPC is ready for 3 unstacked gems (yes, I mention unstacked every time).
8 - They hand in, I see an exp message, I know it's working, I say thanks and disband.

That does not disprove what I said. They just don't want to get GM's involved in that situation. It's still acceptable and intended for people to MQ.

Just because it works, doesn't mean it is intended. Obviously, SoE knows it happens and doesn't put stops in place on all quests, so it could be arguably acceptable. I would best call it an unsupported feature in that in some cases it works, but if it doesn't, you are SOL.

couldnt have said it better myself
a good analogy would be EQW
its an issue where they changed thier stance

When they changed the way NPCs react to unwanted items (ended eating of items) they could have ended MQs forever. That they didn't should tell you something. That there has always been a way to prevent MQs (requiring combine in a container) and that not all quests require this should tell you something. MQ is an intended feature of EverQuest.
