  • WARNING: DO NOT PREORDER LOST DUNGEONS OF NORRATH

I am utterly serious. I don't know where this needs to go so I'm posting in general.

There is a giant bug which screws up how your account is flagged for expansions. People who are preordering are losing Luclin Models, AA Points, Levels, Flags, and other stuff because somehow EQ is seeing them as having no expansions beyond basic. It's been confirmed on The Concert Hall and Fires of Heaven message boards.

This happened to several people in my guild already. Be warned, this is a massive bug.

You would think after all these years they know how to do expansions. :?

Thanks for the warning. I’d just posted a link on our guild page to the deal Allakhazam is offering. It doesn’t seem like such a good deal now.

I found this thread on the EQ Tech Support boards that seems to have the most examples of the problems that have been happening. I couldn't find any official response to the issues yet.

Posters to that thread are now saying that the bug is fixed. Logging to desktop and then reentering is reported to fix the problems.

Well it's not exactly "fixed", they still have GM's running around trying to fix all the players that got broken.

              Still, don't do it.
A bit is fixed, but some people are "fixed" and when they die, they drop down to level 50, even from 100% full of level 65.

Yeah, I have a chanter in guild right now who this is happening to and is waiting for a GM level person to fix her =/

Happened to lots of people tonight. They couldn't fix it by logging in and out, but /petition worked on an individual basis for them. There are only so many GM's to go around, of course.

As the night wore on, this happened to yet more, and they were finding themselves restored to 65 via rezzes.

Dang, I already orderd the expansion from EBGames, but haven't loged in yet. Since I am way busy in RL, I may just wait a bit and see if the problem goes away.

                      EBGames okay

The bug only happens if you pre-order from Sony through the EQ game itself. It unflags your account for all the expansions (just like it did for LoY pre-orders) and then your characters get screwed up.

Pre-ordering from a store (like the EBGames offer on AK) does NOTHING to your account since your actual EQ account is not changed at all until you actually receive the game in the mail.

It is fine to pre-order from EBGames to make sure you get your keychain and in-game satchel.

Do you mean by pre-ordering by doing the pre-download?

I've got to really wonder what the heck is going on over there - first the crash to desk bug that's been plaguing everyone (myself included) and now this - I'm beggining to think that the theory of Sony hosing off the EQ players to drive them over to EQ2 might be a bit more legit the things have been going lately.

No more EQ for me till they fix the crash bug.

I've wondered the same thing about the ornate molds dropping everywhere and the flood of good weapons and earrings/rings and haste items into the game.

Once everybody has insanely good stuff in very short order, what's left to do but start over in EQ2?

Are they going to start making 100/20 weapons and breastplates with 400 AC soon or something?

that's a very odd business practice.

''let's hope our customers get so fed up with our old game, they'll spend lots of money going to our new game!''

'hey, guildmates, since eq has screwed us over so badly recently, let's all go spend money on EQ2!'

it concerns me that they are a professional business -- this is how those people make their bread and butter to put on the table for their families -- and they keep making coding errors that cause these massive problems. is it really so hard to make a game?
