  • Research 0-200 in 4k and ONE MINUTE

Today I just learned it is possible to train the secondary tradeskills (research, fishing, begging) from 0 all the way up to 200 at the PoK guildmaster. At CHA 120s it costs about 4,000pp.

To get 200 research you need to be level 55 and of course have the training points to do it.

I'm sick because I can remember dumping hundreds of "worthless" training points on my wizard into languages.

I see several tradeskills requiring research, and I know many of the spells people make sell for thousands of plat each. I could have made my own Sunstrike.

Don't make the same mistake I did. Train that research skill!

Aye, you can buy up research from 0-200, but getting skillups at the lower levels is really easy, so if you dont have enough training points (or Plat) just skill up to about 170-180 and use training points to get up to 200.

yes, as a mage i found this out ages ago! Frustrated by the need for previous level's pet spells, i went to my trainer and angrily clicked on the training button for research.... and it worked! Only to realize i hadn't donned my sexy charisma gear ops:

combining your research skill to 150 is easy for enchanter, wizard, necro (by personal experience), possibly higher. Particularly if you are collecting the research drops as you hunt.

Don't bother for a mage, just buy the points, BEFORE you make that level's pets 8)

Yeah, best way to do it is to start your research at lvl 19, hoard them components , and combine, combine, combine. My research was ~150 when LoY came about - Once I hit 50 and combined all my pre-50 spells, I stopped working on research, but when I got a rumor of advanced research coming out, I started hoarding Nilitim pages again, and had research in 160's by the time LoY launched. Then used training points and a bit over 1kpp to get all the way to 200.

I did the same with fishing. I got fishing to about 180 then spent training points up to 200

Hmm... been doing that since when "practice research" was hideously broken...

Research 183 was the first thing I bought after I hit level 55. (I quit doing research or spending points on it when I got my last 49th level research only spell, about 4 months after Velious went live)

It's simple economics. 49 spells trivial at 182. You can buy them from vendor mining for about 5.5 pp for each item. Each spell for an enchanter takes 2 items. 11pp a combine. *shudder* (yeah, it's cheaper than LoY ribbons, but still pricy) If you can find the components. And mages... I certainly wouldn't dream of trying to raise skill by actual research as a mage.

On a side note, I looted Keris' Dissertation pg. 7 right a few days ago, then checked the bazaar yesterday. Found someone selling 7 left for 150 pp and thought... "what the heck." ... Short while later "you begin scribing illusion:vah shir" ...

            *dance*

Sure I could have tried to sell it for 10k pp.... but why have a 5 figure bank account for the second time EVER when I can now look like a kitty??
In My (Not Always) Humble Opinion, except where I quote someone. If I don't know I say so.
I suck at this game, your mileage WILL vary. My path is probably NON-optimal.

Another trick is to wait as long as possible before you go to the trainer and train your 1st point into research.

If you train at level 16, you start with 16 skill
If you train at level 25, you start with 25 skill
              You just saved 9 points

Also, get your CHA as high as possible before training research. I trained the last few points (182 to 200) and found my trainer charged less with my CHA at 245 than at 188. In other words, every bit of CHA helps unlike with NPC vendors where 120 CHA generally gets you the best price.
