Serverwide channel oops

I think this is about the right place for this (doesn't quite seem to belong in OOC) - the serverwide.eqtraders channel is password locked as of the last patch, no idea what the password is either Until someone finds it out, may I suggest serverwide.tradeskills for the addicted?

That seems to go on a lot after patches...my server's tradeskill channel got passworded as well; I petitioned and hope they'll clear it *sigh*

What is really ironic is that the induhvidual who passworded the channel to keep out the casual skiller who asks annoying questions has also made it difficult for regulars to join the channel and thus has created a channel devoid of any of the chatter the password maker would want in the channel. Unless, of course the induhvidual did it to be malicious and spiteful. If so, that person deserves to be chained to the computer and forced to make a million HMPs.

That shows who the owner (and passworder) is.

According to a guide I talked to on Innoruuk, the password should drop if the channel remains vacant for 24 hours. So as long as some infant hasn't password protected the channel trying to be cute, we should be back to slamming one another mercilessly by Saturday.

basically the owner is the first person who enters the channel after a serverup.

I know someone on Rallos who was the first person to enter some prexus trader channel and pword it (but this was a long time ago)

Was kinda funny hearing about it on our end (but honestly if you follow the rights of ownership its founders keepers)

Petitioned it just now and got told 'Sorry, but GMs cannot remove passwords from channels'

If someone had it in thier auto join with a password when it normally doesn't have one, then when they create the channel right after serverup, it will have the password that they specified.

At this point we just have to hope they log out and stay logged out for 24 hours, or hope someone else can get in and identify them, or that the servers go down. Hopefully it isn't someone parked in /trader mode with a bizaare password.

as far as passwords go I've already tried eqtraders, traders, losers, stfu, and fefs... hehe

I imagine it's someone who has a beef against tradeskillers, though I can't imagine why....

I also noticed that serverwide.eqtraders disappeared on serverup. I tried /join serverwide.eqtraders and got invalid password error, then tried /join serverwide.eqtraders.eqtraders and am the only person in the channel. Was this the old channel and password? I had it on autojoin and forgot the information along with everyone else.

To remedy the situation

I made serverwide.EQTC:EQTC...I'm seriously betting the pw was for malicious reasons, and the only way to stop that from experience is to take ownership. Chat channels don't go away after patches if there are passwords on them unless the chat server goes down too, and it hasn't gone down in ages, so I'm not expecting serverwide.eqtraders to be available again for quite a while.

Keep in mind however that since I've got ownership of serverwide.EQTC, I set the ops and decide the rules--some people may not like that at all.

This is intended to be temporary till the troll gets tired. But if not, /shrug.

Please instead of all these splitoff channels..everyone join either serverwide.eqtrader or serverwide.tradeskills:tradeskills (which already have folks in em) We're all spread out now, lets at least try to congregate in one spot LOL
