  • Trivial item vendors.

I was just wondering about the viability of an idea I had. I do not know if anyone has suggested it previously.

OK so I was making ceramic lining number 453(ish) and I thought well wouldn't it be nice if I could buy it off a vendor premade...Haven't we all.

Anyway.... Now that vendors can check your skill level why can we not have vendors that stock items that can be made completely from storebought items and are used in harder combines.

I point out again the storebought only part. I am not suggesting any items that can currently only be made with a dropped component. I doubt they would include zone specific items either.

I thought that either it shows everything and only lets you buy the ones trivial to you, or it may only show you items that are trivial to you. The second idea could create a lot of problems unless the vendor had no ability to buy items. If they only sold items it might be easier to code.

They have made it so it is less likely for you to fail trivial items so now said items are purely a wrist destroying, sanity warping, timesink.

So as an example PoK could have a smithing vendor that will sell you metal bits, Folded MQ sheets of metal, metal rings, etc. etc.

Not items like HQ metal rings which would render the vendor restocking quest useless but simple often used things.

I do not really think having pots, frying pans, filliting knives, etc etc on vendors is a good idea though. I guess it would be a judgement call on the dev teams part as to what vendors could stock.

I realise things like celestial essence being on a vendor would hurt newbie plat makers in the bazaar. But if one of the tradeskill team went for a browse at prices in various bazaars I am sure they could strike a balance. Make it so there is still profit for newbies but if you have the plat to pay a little more from a vendor then why not ?

I for one see no reason for anyone to have to make hundreds of items that trivialled 100+ points ago to advance. I know how to make ceramic linings. I know how to make metal bits. I know how to fold sheets of metal. I know how to run around PoK fetching thousands of stones of ore and then crawling around trying to find a free forge. I do not see the point.
    Can anyone ???

    Thoughts ?

I think part of the reason they introduced stuff with lots of sub-combines is a balancing issue. Tailoring and cooking are good examples. The components for Misty Thicket picnics are relatively easy to get. Most are purchasable, theres almost allways people selling fruit and veggies, and brownie parts aren't too hard to farm. However, the number of combines for this recipe is insane. On the flip side, Raven stew has very few combines at the same trivial level, but the items are very difficult to get in quantity. So in my opinion, having to do the subcombines is part of the balance to a recipe that you can get the components to easily. Now, if they had a vendor that sold celestial essences for and slightly higher price then I could make them, I'd be in love. So I guess, as long as the vendor sold the "subcombine" item for a higher cost then you yourself could do, it might balance out.

There's currently a good example of a tradeskill component that can be both made and bought from an NPC.

Coldain Velium Temper can be bought for about 26 pp in Thurgadin. You can make it for just under 10 pp but it takes a lot of combines and a trip to Cobalt Scar to buy algae from the single vendor in the game that sells it.
