  • Begging and 'aggro'

I have seen many threads concerning begging, and I have some questions. Hopefully someone can answer them.

I have heard, and read about an NPC aggroing on you and attacking when you beg them. This has never happened to me, so I am curious. Is there a trigger to this aggro? Does it depend on the relative levels of the begging char (The Beggar) and the NPC (the Begee)? Is this aggro cumulative like faction, or is it reset when you log/zone? Is there any indication that you are about to gain aggro from the Begee, as in going from indifferent to dubious?

As you can see from my sig, my begging has fallen behind. I am interested in raising that, and this information may prove useful.

    Re: Begging and 'aggro'

It would appear that faction will effect if an NPC will aggro you - as a young DE necro I had begged from a dubious guard back when I didn't know the best payoff was a silver peice - after the second or third attempt the sucker wasted me.

It does apparently cause some kind of aggro increase in NPCs which is why many a tank will use begging in addition to taunt in order to keep an NPC's attention, but if you are concerned, stick with an NPC that you can handle in case he jumps you.

      Faction

I got wasted a few times by the trainers in my own guildhall, even after I had faction to ally. So faction alone doesn't do it. I also have been aggroed on the first beg, so I doubt it is cumulative. I think it is a random number, kind of like getting a skillup is. Every time you try, there is a chance. Also, as begging skill goes up, I seem to get aggroed less. I have 80+ skill, atm and almost never get aggroed any more.

I have also found that very low greens don't seem to aggro. If they are threatening or scowling, and don't attack, you can beg them all day long, with no problems. I find that the skeletons in the first floor of befallen are great for begging, if what you want is skillups. Of course, depending on your level, you might want to watch out for The named mummy who spawns by the entrance.

If you continue to beg from a person after he's already given you a coin, he may attack. Notice that they tell you to go away when they give you the coin.

If you zone out and then come back, you can beg from that person again without risk... until you get another success.

          Begging.

From the time I had a begging skill of about 60 or 70, I never again got attacked for begger--ever. Not against green, blue, or yellow (guildmaster) mobs. I wasn't paying a great deal of attention to my faction standing with mobs from which I was begging, but I was definitely not attacked for it in the last several thousand begs it took to get to 193 before I clued in that I could train the last few points at my guildmaster and spare myself the rest of the grief.

            Begging Goner

If all you want is skill increase, you can beg from pets. My magician begs from Goner while medding and he has never attacked.

Next time you are on a raid, sit next to a pet or warder and go for it -- PL that begging skill !

The general thought is that begging from pets no longer works. Can anyone confirm that they recieved a skillup from begging from a pet recently?

Use to be able to beg boats, and the spires. (the spires by starting a trade then cancelling and then the spires would be targeted. You can still target the spire but can no longer beg)
I kite so in my kite Hotkey i have the 10th hotkey linked to my "w" key (Move forward) So everytime i move forward i try to beg from targeted mob. I have sense heading and forage in my traveling bank.

I quit the game I loved because it wasn't anymore. Guilds allowing farmers in because they could do a lot of damage in raids.
SoE not really doing anything about farmers, macroquesters ect.

                  begging

Begging from pets HAS been nerfed. You cannot get skillups that way.

NPCs WILL aggro you, even if you've never gotten a coin from them. The first time I was ever attacked for begging, I had NEVER gotten a coin, ever.

My experience is similar to khoren's. Since I hit a skill somewhere around 60 or 70, I have not EVER been attacked by an npc for begging, regardless of con. I have begged the same npc until it runs out of coppers, and no aggro, without zoning.

But even with 0 skill, if something is a low green, non-humanoid mob, it will not aggro you. I find the best ones are the static spawn skeletons, since they never move, such as the ones in befallen, or at the BBM druid ring.

I've raised my begging skill to 99 and have yet to be successful (not a single copper!) - is this unusual, even for begging?

my alt, a 36 Vah shir warrior, has begged a dagger out of a goblins hand in HHK, mid fight. And has begged a mace out of a Craig giants hand, mid fight in DL. Should have seen the comments from my party members. Next time it happens, i'm gonna screen shot it.

since beg is part of my combat hotkey (attack off, beg, attack on, kick, taunt) i haven't had gotten too much else by begging.

I was attacked by a guard in Misty thicket after begging him about 15-20 times, my toon was 6 then, all of a sudden "LOADING, PLEASE WAIT".
I was like WTF, then i found out begging could cause agro.

I've done all of my begging (only about 30 points or so) from the Soulbinder in Freeport. I figure since a Soulbinder's healthbar shows him as dead anyway, even if he does aggro on me, I should be ok... Never aggro'ed, even one night when I spent a full 8 hours at work hitting the hotkey as often as I could...

                          Getting cash from begging

I've raised my begging skill to 99 and have yet to be successful (not a single copper!) - is this unusual, even for begging?

Depends on who/what you are begging. I have skilled up on skeltons for hours, without getting a copper. On the other hand, I have begged the guards at the NK/SK bridge, and gotten 12 coppers in a row. My skill is lower than yours, so if you are begging an intelligent creature, yes that is odd.

Begging can be trained on mobs. Got to 120 at level 24 by begging from green rats while camping Gynok in Befallen.

Begging CAN cause aggro, although at higher level it dont seem to do any more (got aggro at 20 skill, never got after 120, but since i were training on mobs i cant confirm when the aggro stopped). Some NPCs HATE beggars, and will aggro at first beg. Guard Fayfear in Gfay do for example beat up beggars at first try.

As for the results of begging, im at 182 skill now, and my record are still the occasional 1 silver, although 1 copper are more common.

                              Getting better...

I spent quite a bit of time this past weekend begging (and drinking!), while I was waiting for a GM response. I started out doing some vendors in PoT, then moved to the BB drud rings and the static skellies there. Problem with that was I'd be sitting there begging, someone would run up.. Whack! Whack! You must first select a target... etc. So I moved to the gold tower halfway over to the crossroads, which has a skellie inside it. Raised my skill to 148, and only 'lost my target' twice.

My record so far for cash received from begging: 1 copper. Once.
