  • What equation is used to figure out cost of training skills?

    Hello,

I know you can train up skills at your trainer, and they have a p/g/s/c/ cost attached to them. I was wondering if anyone had figured out the equation used for this?

I have a spell research skill in the 130s and I am trying to figure out if buying pages and practice runes is cheaper than just buying the skill points up. I have over 70 practice points I never could figure out what to do with, and was thinking a 200 research skill would be kind of neat.

I figured with at least 10 combines needed per skill up, and pages costing at least 1 to 2 p each with needing 2 per combine, that if it costs less than 40 p per training point, that might be best (and a lot faster .

    Thoughts?

Costs to skill up are not a flat rate. My enchanter gets better prices then my druid does, assuming due to CHA. The only way to see, is by going to your guildmaster and seeing what he charges. The prices will go up per point.

Note that there is some evidence that the normal "soft cap" of charisma used to get best merchant prices may not get best trainer prices ... more data is probably needed to see if/where this cap is.

Languages are a waste of practice points, they are incredibly easy to get to 100 without training points.

I used practice points for languages. I still have about 30 practice points left and absolutely nothing to put them in. Saving practice points 'for a rainy day' has made my remaining ones useless. Hehe.

Research and/or Poison Making can be trained past 21 at your trainer, which is a good option for those extra points (if you have access to those skills).

Most casters have really low H2H...

                  Well

I got every page I could find off all the merchants and mules in the bazaar, and did a bunch of combines, and got a skill every 4th click on average, but at a cost of 5 p to 10p per page and needing one faded, or two other pages per combine, it was much cheaper to just train them. It cost between 20p to 35 p per skill to get to skill 185 (I am level 52, and that is my max at this sec).

So as a rule of thumb, just buy research to 200, it is much cheaper if you have the practive points *nods*.

                  Enjoy,
                  -Shadeofnight

If you're a mage, it's always going to be cheaper to buy the points from the trainer, however it's far from cheap.

If you're any other caster, and you have any 50+ friends (or a 50+ main) you can easily get enough high level research items that you probably won't need to buy the points. at least that's what we've done for several of our caster twinks now. I've bought a point for my enchanter alt here and there, but only when i run out of research stuff we looted, and i don't want to wait til tomorrow to get more.

Of course, this assumes they don't mind saving them for you rather than making celestial essences out of them!
