I was in Neriak yesterday nosing around the foreign quarter and I found the rusty weapons merchant was back. It looks like Rusty Two-handed swords now cost 1pp 6gp and some change, whereas before they were buyable for a little over 3 gold.

Basically, the conversion process was to buy a rusty 2-handed sword (was 0.314pp), sharpen (0.003pp) it in a forge to make a tarnished 2-handed sword, and then combine that with a flask of water (0.010pp) to create a large brick of ore, which sells back to a vendor for about 1.429pp. It was a very tedious process, but it was useful for twinking a low level character just starting out on a new server.

It's kind of amusing that we can potentially blame two-thirds of a money-leak problem on the trolls and the frogs, though.

I've never seen any ore just laying around for sale on the vendors in the Neriak area, so either no one had set up any macros on Xev or the problem was the frogs/humans.

Bingo. Yet again, another low-level's path to some money gets nerfed out the wazoo.

Wasn't surprising. We had a guildie staying in East Freeport literally make himself the cash to hit 188 smithing a sword-to-ore conversion at a time.

At 3rd level. On Stromm. No assistance. :P

I feel guilty for some reason-considering I introduced the method to Denmother's Children...and I think someone noticed and applied a nerf bat. BLAH.

            re

Yea that was me :P I was doing it before i joined DMC. Yea, manufacturing plat like that might be seen as a easy path, but try it starting with 1pp 3gold (i killed 2 rats and got one tail) and work from there to get 2 smiths to 188 with crappy wis/int/str and you will see that it makes mino hero brews look like fetid essence.

That wasnt what got it nerfed, on stromm there was a guy macroing it on both forges, and he was memory hacking so he could use merhcants and the forge without ever moving.

I fail to see why if Sony is as efficient as they claim about catching hackers, that it was necessary to remove that money making path. Yes, I am familiar with the infinite money sink hole. BUT, if I spend 10 hours doing those conversions (I did, made about 4k) and hurting my wrist that much, why is it necessary to bash teh hard work I did? Rather than kill the method, just reduce slightly the payback. Say in 10 hours I get 1k. Most people over level 45 can make 1k in 10 hours. I don't know of a single class at 45 that can't solo giants in FM for loot, and that's easy fast cash.

Ok that was a rant, so I'ma shut up before I cause the post to get locked/moved

                On a side note...

The zone-file itself for Gukta/Grobb is "Grobb". That's why it's referenced that way whenever the zone goes down.

                  Memory hacking???

As for reducing the payback - the problem is that with a good computer, conection and macro program, a person can still make tons of plat while AFK - so you slow it down from 400 plat an hour to 40 an hour - someone who'd doing this kinda stuff is still more than willing to let thier extra computer run 24/cranking out the free plat.

Recall also that with these macros, some of them can allow you to move at lightning speed in the game so no matter how small the exploit, there are folks out there that can still score tons of plat off of them.

I only wish they were as good at finding bugged quests and recipes as they were at finding the exploitable ones.

Man that neriak exterminator... sheesh. I was just for kicks the other day redoing the Staff of the Wheel quest. Its a low level wizard quest. Part of it requires you to pick up a ground spawn by the Blind Fish bar in Neriak.

That exterminator... sheesh. He sees invis. How is a lighty supposed to get in there? Not only does he see invis but he hits for 600+ and is immune to changes in run speed... he ran me out of Neriak in about 10 seconds and I'm a level 65 wizard with epic and lots of AA.

I'll assume, for a moment, that you are agnostic.

If this is the case, then simply get a DELF potion, and you'll be fine. Or get a 60+ Enchanter to Share an Illusion with you.

If you have a religion, get an enchanter to charm/mez the freaking guy, and grab the quest piece and RUN.

I am not agnostic. Most wizards worship Solusek Ro.

Just seems a bit harsh. I mean the quest is pre-kunark and even then was doable at level 16 (when you get invis).

I was finally able to go around him by pulling a levitate trick to get over a wall, but even that is a level 24 spell for wizards.

Wizzies should definitely /bug that to get the guy moved or at least make him not see invis. That's just not right.

The Exterminator in Felwithe is just as bad. Forget hunting the guards there-he'll come in and whack you.

Might as well be a second newbie gate guard post all by himself. I've killed the bugger-with 20 50-ish people helping out!

It's about 7K damage to ding 1% of his lifebar. And he does see invis, and aggros on enemy types like shadowknighty me.

I agree... they should not see invis. There have never been see invis mobs in cities except in very out of the way places. You could always expect to be able to invis through KOS cities until now.

Potions won't help in Neriak with people worshipping good aligned gods. They really hate those gods in there. A Tunare worshipper start KoS to every Dark Elven faction even as a Dark Elf. After 2000 positive faction hits and no negative ones, my Wood Elven Druidess of Tunare maxed out at dubious with Dreadguard Inner. The Exterminators in Commons and 3rd Gate are on that faction.

Only way for a Tunare worshipper to get past the Exterminator now is either to turn in around 1000 lightstones in South Ro and then use a Dark Elf illusion or to bring a CoH Mage.
