  • 240 vs. 250

Other than to join the 1750 club, is there any reason to take a trade passed 240? It seems like a waste of time since your skill is effectively maxed with a geerlok. I am sure all of my skills will eventually hit 250 with the amount of 250+ combines I do, but it seems like a huge waste of plats for those final 10 points, particularly in tailroing and smithing.

Basically, no, there is no advantage other than bragging rights to hit 250 over 240 as 240+geerklok=252 and 250+geerlok=252 also.

Those lucky enough to get a 15% item can get to 220 and stop there, even.

Agreed, there is no practical reason to push your true skill to 250 as far as game mechanics are concerned. For me it’s simply a role-play issue. You can make everything a true GM baker, for example, could make, but I don’t feel a character is really a GM baker unless he/she has a 250 natural skill. Can you imagine a chef in the real world claiming that she’s among the top chefs of the world, unless you took away her electronic spatula?

But as you say, some skills are very expensive to train. And if you will eventually max out your skill by doing a lot of 250+ combines in the course of practicing your trade, then there really isn’t a reason to blow all that extra plat. But with skills like brewing and baking, I’d say go for it.
