  • So everyone going to Chicago? Registration is open now

So ya gotta just go, since this time I am actually going to be there! I got tired of reading all about how much fun it *was* for *everyone else.* I am registered. I have a room from 23rd to 29th allowing for some sightseeing at the great Fan Faire group room rate. I am gonna light that town up.

    Here's where to go...

    SOE Fan Faire site

Has links to Registration ($89) and side links to the group rate they have set up for the georgeous Sheraton Chicago Hotel and Towers for $109/night right smack downtown on the Chicago River near the Lakefront, and also the group rates they have arranged with 3 major airlines for discount airfares. (Though I have yet to book, this early just going through Expedia a round trip is pretty darned cheap.)

Here's a link for Chicago Transit Authority if you don't want to pay $45 for a cab from O'Hare...bus and train maps available.

Hope y'all go! According to the Registration site I'm the only one going from Vazaelle so far but then it only opened yesterday.

(EDIT...bah, I guess it makes sense EZcodes don't work here )
(edit of the edit, by 'Mum ... fixed the links by using "url" instead of "link")

    Fan Faire

After experiencing how little there was at the Las Vegas FF, I will probably not return to one unless my guild is doing a massive get together. Most of the LVFF was SOE trying to sell us products. I was very disappointed. They had a total of 3 panel discussions per hour for 3 hours. That was about it.

I agree that the panel discussions need to be fleshed out more. I realize that it is difficult for the devs to sit around all day and answer questions, but the Vegas panels were rather disappointing.

In previous Fan Faires they had a variety of panels focusing on different aspects of the game. There was a Quest panel and a Spells panel and a Tradeskills panel, as well as the more General Q&A panel. Nowadays I suppose that they don't have people who are experts in specific areas like this.

The banquet dinner is usually horrible (typical convention food), but the reception is usually decent--appetizers are harder to screw up. And for some reason they NEVER have an adequate sound system for the speakers or presenters.

I agree that they seem to always be focused on selling stuff, but some of the stuff is pretty neat. The Live Quest is fun. And if you know a couple of other people going, it is a good opportunity to drink and talk and have a good time. I'll be there.

Hmm. They're having one in Chicago?

If anyone wants to do lunch, let me know. And be aware that the Metra has odd hours- some of the lines don't run on the weekends.

The field museum and the aquarium are great things to do downtown, and there's a -wonderful- pub in Wrigley. :9

I wholeheartedly reccomend stopping at Geno's East. Don't quite know where it is, but it is in downtown. It is the original, there is a chain of them now. One of the best pizza places ever.

I'll be there. We're still not sure if the House Ogre will make it or not, but I'm booked for it.

One thing that I'm hoping they add (I put in a suggestion about it) is a "community photo" time set aside, where communities like EQTC, EQDruids, Druid's Grove, etc. can reserve a time to get a couple quick group photos. It's at least halfway easy to find folks if you know their server name, but it's beyond hard to find folks by community, unless you get very lucky. If they don't set aside a room and some time, I'll arbitrarily announce a time and a place a couple days before the Faire, and we can do it on our own.

Of course, this means I need to whip up a banner of some sort ...

My husband (Sisca) and I are going. This will be our first Fan Faire, so I'm pretty excited about it.

I was actually thinking Goose Island. :9

And myself and Marlos (rl partner who plays on Prexus) will be there.

edited because a close quote tag got put in there somehow. :P
