Today I combined spider silks to make 4 stacks of silk swatches, and I didn't get a single failure. My skill is 177. Could it be that very trivial combines always succeed now? Anyone noticed this too?

and 2 spiderling silk = silk thread. no fail.
it says that somewhere 'round here. i came across it a long time later, and was like, 'heh, forgot all about that.'
probably one of the few 'really nice' things they allow us.

Kinda sad when I failed on making dough last week, but yes it happened. Also made an Unfired Golden Idol of tunare then failed on the firing. I was able to laugh about the dough, but the idol was just wrong =(Master Artisan Kahmon

I seem to remember someone at a fanfare, or some such, pointing out to one of the developers that a GM baker could fail at slicing a cake and destroy the cake. He seemed to be surprised and said something about looking into it.
I would love to see a system put into this game that any combine that is some set percentage below your skill level would always succeed. The 5% failure rate on very low trivial items is ridiculous, in my opinion. Granted, nobody is perfect, but I have a hard time seeing the top chefs in the world burning their toast 5% of the time. My cooking skills leave a lot to be desired, but even I don’t burn my toast that often.
There is some sillyness built into trade skills that is just there by design and can’t be removed without removing the items themselves. Misty Picnics are the perfect example. The trivial on picnic is over 250 skill, but this is not for making the food. Each food item has its own trivial level. It seems that what’s harder than making any of the food items is placing each item correctly inside the basket. That’s what takes over 250 skill. /boggle
Still, it would be nice if we didn’t have to deal with ridiculous failure rates on minor trivial items every time we try to do combines.Pait Spiritwalker

I wonder how recent is that change, I haven't need to combine them since I was doing Wu's armor...Tinile, 85th Druid of the Seventh Hammer

I've never seen a silk swatch, or silk thread fail. I have three Master tailors, and every other character I have has gotten their tailoring to a minimum skill of 15 on silk swatches and threads. Over three years playing EQ, and I've never talked to anyone personally who claimed to have failed a silk thread or silk swatch.
Leather padding is another story entirely. it's trivial at 31, and as we all know, even if your skill is equal to the trivial of an item, you still only have about a 70% success rate. To achieve the 5% minimum failure rate on leather padding, I suggest you get your tailoring to mid 40's at least.Balkin Ironfist (Ominous Deeds)

PFFT. My tailoring is at 158 and I STILL fail regularly on the stupid leather padding. It drives me nuts. My baking is at 250 and I fail making clumps of dough, slicing cakes, and fileting meats. I hate that 5% failure rate. I think anything that's more than 150 points trivial to you should be a no fail combine.Idara Inari - nosy woodelf druid addicted to tradeskills

swatches have always been no fail.. ... threads have been no fail since the added them....
it would be nice is say anything 100 points below your skill would never fail. Top end, that'd be anything below 152... which there isn't a ton of really special things below that in any skill. The biggest problem of the trivials is it's on each layer of an item; if you have an item that takes 3 subcombines, you're actual failure rate for the final product is higher. The second biggest problem with far trivial failures is, it's basicly senseless. The best jeweler in the world is not going to fail anealing a piece of metal very often... and it's beyond rediculous to think they're going to do it 1 in 20 attempts.
