  • Wis gear suggestions

    Ok, so I'm reaching that point where skillups arent coming as fast as they used to, so to save myself too many headaches, I'm finally getting serious about my skill-up gear... I need to purchase a few things, but after that I will have 240 wis. My question is if anyone has any better suggestions than what I'm currently using for the primary/secondary/ranged slots...

    Current Gear:
    primary: Arbitors Combine Greatsword 2HS +15 Wis
    ranged: Blessed Faydark Stinger +5 Wis

    Now I know about the Testament of Vanear and I have considered obtaining one, but I dont know what to put in my primary hand... (perhaps a geerlok at some point?) Eventually I imagine I'll have a GMT, but thats still only a dream at this point

    So anyway, if anyone has some good suggestions for the weapon slots, I'm all ears

    I would suggest listing all of your gear or your magelo link for suggestions. For just one slot, you can do your own search with your race/class info and slot choice and stick in WIS and come up with your own list of items to look into. There's several of these searches out there, at eqmaps.com, allakhazam, eqprices.com and more that I can't think of now.

      Hm, maybe I came across wrong... I've been doing research all afternoon and I'm not having much luck with the weapon slots. See what I'm looking for is a search of primary slot equipable items - searching by 1hs, 1hb and piercing I've tried, and gotten a few item suggestions, but I know that there's more items out there, such as shields and odd little trinkets that you can equip in the primary slot. Anyway, I was just trying to see if anyone had any good ideas on the top of their heads for primary equipable items with better than a +5 wis as I've already spent hours researching this and not having much luck...

      As for a magelo, I cant really use it (browser incompatibilities) so here's what I use to keep track:
      http://www-personal.umich.edu/~buzz/...rade_gear.html and if anyone wanted to suggest better upgrades, thats cool too - but I think I've got most other slots pretty well ironed out...

      Anyway, I hope I'm not imposing too much by asking this, I really respect this community and the people in it which is why I usually just lurk and learn , but in this instance, I thought I had a question someone could help me with...

      Thanks all!

        Well, I'm not really good with weapons as I don't really dabble in melee, but I can make a couple suggestions for other slots.

        Get a Earring of Solstice. This will be an item you will want for regular use as well as good wisdom item.

        For range item, look into the Beginner Magic Manual quest in PoK. The quest is written out on the www.eqtraders.com site. It has 6 wisdom

        Depending on how much money you have GEBs are good footware with 9 wis.

        Testament of Vaneer is a good idea.

          Lucy

          If you haven't done so already, you might consider using the Advanced Search at Lucy. I put in the following sample searches for you:

          Ranger-equippable, PRIMARY slot, WIS >= 9
          Ranger-equippable, SECONDARY slot, WIS >= 9
          Ranger-equippable, RANGE slot, WIS >= 9

            Ah, I'm not that familiar with Lucy, so I didnt know about that search... thanks Arista!

            Beginner's Magic Manual looks doable too! That's exactly the kind of thing I was looking for - hopefully I can get my hands on some hobgoblin meat / suprise in the Bazaar (since I'm not old enough to get to the planes yet)

            Now I do have a question about the Earring of Solstice... does "recommended level 51" mean that I cant wear it at all at lvl 43 or I will just have reduced stats?

            And if you'll forgive the newbie question, what are GEBs? I probably dont have the money for em, but I'm still curious

            Thanks for all the help!

              GEB == Golden Efreeti Boots if I'm not mistaken (and I probably muffed the spelling while I was at it).

                You can wear the solstice earring at lvl 1 if you are inclined - and the stats you get will be the final stat * your level / 51. There is debate about when the FT effect begins - I am almost certain I had it when I first got the earring at lvl 42, sources like Lucy suggest it wouldn't have an effect until lvl 44.

                Good luck.

                  Inyidd spelled it correctly. Sorry I abbreviated. GEBs go for 3-4k on my server these days.

                  Yes you can wear Earring of Solstice at lower levels then 51, with reduced stats. I cannot say for sure if you get the Flowing Thought effect before 51. I've seen debate on both sides of that fence. My enchanter has worn the earring since about level 40 and I believe it was only 2 or 3 negative on the full stats.

                  Regarding the Hobgoblin Surprise, they are almost always available in my bazaar, usually running from 50-200pp. Well worth that price for the manual, IMO. Unsure of your baking skill, but my hubby and I tried a few surprises when we got our hands on some meat. We were both at around skill 195 and failed on them all. I would not suggest making it yourself unless you are very high at baking.

                    Yeah, point taken Tinile, my baking is still sub-200, so I'll be looking for hobgoblin suprise then...

                    And it sounds like as soon as I can get my hands on the Earring of the Solstice it'll be well worth it, so I guess I'll get going on that too.

                    Ahh, now I get it! GEBs are probably out of the question at the moment, but they're good to keep in mind.

                    Now if only my server had a better tradesill economy! Hopefully there are some out there, but the few times i've been in the bazaar looking for stat food/drink for instance - there's none there! I still have never seen a QAT. I can usually find one or two MTPs for sale at 200pp each :shock:, but thats about it... Ah well, all the more market for me if I can get my skills up, i guess

                        Wow! that's perfect!!
                        Too bad they're probably wicked rare. But I need to start hunting in JP anyway, being a mid 40s ranger who bakes, so I'll keep my eye out for one! (groan, sorry about that one)
                        But one of those and a testament of vanear would certainally be great!

                          I was 2/4 at 195. They're less difficult that MTPs, roughly on a par with the other PoP post 250 recipes.

                            Kentarre, I would recommend doing the testament of vanear quest (http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?quest=144), as it will be one of the easiest items to get. Camping the last NPC can be a pain as I think he has a six-hour spawn time, or perhaps longer. Its been ages since I did the quest. I’ll tell you the secret that worked back in the day and might work now. If you know the server is going down, camp yourself a short distance from the NPC's spawn point. When I did this I found him standing there when the server came back up, bypassing that entire time-consuming camp. I suggest you read through some of the posts beneath the quest and beneath the listing for the item itself. I found some very good walkthroughs that way, including some parts of the quest that you don’t really have to do.

                            You’re right, you do need to spend some time in Jaggedpine. It’s the perfect zone for rangers and druids from about 45 to 55. Fear kiting griffons and later anacondas is good experience and between the meats and the foraged plant shoots you get a nice supply of baking materials. If you’re very very lucky you may get an Eye of the Griffon. But having spent a great deal of time in that zone with both my druid and my ranger I can tell you they are very rare. I’ve yet to loot one.

                            As for the Earring of the Solstice, I too would recommend it. However, like GEBs it’s rather pricey. Take a look at the quest and make a shopping list (http://www.eqtraders.com/quests/potc_intro.htm). Depending on your server you should be able to find everything you need in the bazaar. My druid is wearing two, one of each type, and I just bought one for my shaman. I’d recommend shopping for the items over a period of time and getting the best price you can. My first two earrings cost me about 8K each. My last one cost me just under 4K.

                            Best of luck in your wisdom quest.
