• More questions from a newbie: Skilling Suit

I'm playing a ranger for my first EQ character, and I've gotten a little hooked on trade skills. Anyway, I'm realizing that if I boost my wisdom, I can grow faster at the variety of trade skills I'm working on. While some of my armor and such come with wisdom bonuses, I'd like to find some additional items that are not particular ranger-oriented, but that I could put on when i do my fletching, smithing, etc. I imagine putting on a nice soft pair of pyjamas, putting on my wise earings, playing some soft, cool music and delicately sewing some silk swatches.

Anyway, as I wouldn't need these to be good in battle, useful for mana generation, etc., I figure there are some "so-so" items out there that will tend to sell cheaply that I can keep in my Wisdom bag at the bank and put on when I just want to feel wise. For example, last night I bought a pair of rings that boost my wisdom by +2. I don't know if these are the best for a ranger, but it's this sort of thing I'd like to wear when I bake.

Do you veteran skillers have any suggestions?

/baz
max price : whatever you want to pay per piece
select by stat : wisdom
select by race : your race
select by classs : ranger
click on wisdom in search result to sort from highest to lowest

Buy slots that you need wisdom upgrades for until you run out of plat.

Do you have a Magelo profile so we can see what gear you have now? If so link it. It will help in offering suggestions.

I'd say, most people have a "Skill up Suit" of one kind or another, until their normal gear maxes out their primary stat anyway.

Ranger Wisdom shouldn't be to hard to build up.

Someone listed what to do in the /bazaar earlier. The only thing I wouldn't do is put a max price up. Just do the rest, then sort your results by WIS and see how high you're willing to pay. I do this with all my tradeskill characters.

Some slots are easy to fill with high INT or WIS items, others slots, you're lucky to find something +3 for a reasonable amount. Good luck!

Thanks for answers

I do have a magelo profile, but I have a great deal of difficulty updating it. So I won't post it just yet, but I'll try to get it right tonight and post it tomorrow.

I have done the /bazaar thing but I guess I was hoping for a jump-start on particularly high wisdom, low price items to focus on. And also a rule of thumb for what the pp-per-wisdom-point efficient frontier is. Clearly, a +7 earring is worth more than 7* a +1 earring, but how much more? I know through repeated sampling of the /bazaar, I can induce these things myself, but I'd love to tap into the collective wisdom (pardon the pun) of this group.

Thanks!

I don’t really think there is a general rule for pricing items in the bazaar. For example, something with twice the amount of wisdom as another item is not necessarily twice as much. It really just depends on the item. Some slots are harder to fill with a particular stat and therefore will be more expensive. If the item has a focus effect it may be a heck of a lot more expensive. If the item has another use, such as possibly a quest item, that could add to its cost. Add to all that the fact that there are no guidelines for individuals to use when pricing items on their vendors and you end up with all kinds of prices on items.

I can’t think of any specific items to suggest off the top of my head, sorry about that, but I can try to suggest some general things. When sorting in the bazaar, don’t forget to look for other items to hold in your hands besides weapons. I’m not sure what’s available for rangers, but there are all kinds of hand held wisdom items in the game. You should also look around for quests to do. You might be able to get some useful items that way. I’ve been told that there are some decent quests in the Plane of Knowledge, but I haven’t looked into them yet. Here’s a link that might prove useful (http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/zlist.html). And depending on your equipment, don’t forget that having a high strength works for smithing and a high dexterity works for fletching. And don’t forget about stat food and drink. I keep a couple of Qeynos Afternoon Teas and Misty Picnics in my bank to add +10 wisdom when doing trade skills. If you’re working on smithing and using your strength, replace the tea with Grobb Liquidised Meat. And if you’re using your dexterity for fletching replace the picnic with a justice fruit pie.

Best of luck.

If it's for sale, a search will find it. If it's not for sale, it doesn't matter if we recommend it or not.

Don't get in a rush either. When shopping in the bazaar always look for bargains.

I recently found a pair of blue diamond earrings for 100pp each, well below vendor price. I make more than a few plat looking for things that I can sell for less than they sell to vendors and then immediately selling them to a vendor.

Othmir fur items are usually a good buy for wisdom gear. The hat is especially nice (+6 for less than 20pp) and it usually goes for a song since there are way too many of them in circulation.

You might want to look at platinum jasper rings instead of velium unless you have more money than I do. They usually cost less than half and are only 1 point less in Wis.

A charred guardian shield and a paw of oppolla would be good if you can use them both +9 and less than 500pp each on most days.

Thanks, those concrete suggestions will help me get started. It's a lot easier to have a little sense of where to start and then develop one's own intuition than just to start cold.

Also a furry hat fits my mental image perfectly. Time to put on my thinking cap!

Thank you very much.

You could also do the Testament of Vanear quest, it's not very difficult and gives a +10 wis item for you secondary hand

Every professional tradeskiller has a skillup suit - it'll pay for itself in no time. Personally, as an ogre warrior, I can hit 305 int unbuffed now, which helps loads in not having to hunt down a KEI every time. That may not be realistic for everyone, but definitely get as much as you can in terms of tradeskill stat boosters and keep on the lookout for bargains.

Yup, a wisdom suit is a great idea, and will pay for itself, but I can definately understand being cash strapped

Of course these are just ideas... I did some searching in the Bazaar for cheap wis gear and some searching on Allakhazam by slot for other interesting ideas for gear - especially for slots where I have no wis currently... Anyway, good luck!

Check out my profile under my sig for anger wisdom gear. Some examples:

Charred guardian shield. +9 Wis for < 100pp.

Acrylia studded cloak. +10 Wis. The price for this will vary a lot. If you find a knuckleheaded tailor dumping stuff you'll get it real cheap.

Leaf scale gloves. +5 Wis for about 100pp.

Also, don't forget the value of stat food. You can buy a Qeynos Afternoon Tea (+5 Wis) for 15pp and numerous kinds of +Wisdom food. Just learn to force-feed yourself so that you don't use them up.
