Skill cap question

Hi gang,

I am quickly approaching 200 in my favorite tradeskill, baking. I've tried a couple of times to make items that are over the 200 original skill cap and failed. My question is: Do you have to have AA points spent in the New Tanaan tradeskills to even make items over 200? Or did I just plain-old fail on the three attempts I made at the Hallas 10-lb. pie?

You just failed. There are some recipes that require skill over a certain level, but in those cases you cannot even attempt the recipe before that point. It gives you a message saying something along the lines of insufficient skill to attempt, and doesn't even try to combine.
