  • Farming the Shawl 8 event?

Hey all, had a weird idea today:

The 8th shawl event has some very nice and desireable weapon drops. Now, the armor made for the Coldain Prayer shawl quests must be re-made for every end-event attempt a shawl owner makes, right?

Well, what if you didn't hand your shawl to the Avatar of Below? What if you used your embroidered prayer shawl and a new set of armor to re-set the event, so you could outfit your guild with some very nice weapons?

It seems to me that you would be able to trigger your raids at the convenience of your guild, guarantee some very nice drops, and have a relatively quick and painless raid for some pretty nice rewards.

The only problem I see with this is that you need the Dain in order to get the items you give to the General to trigger the event. Remember that you can only summon him once, whether or not you fail the final war. If the Dain is killed soon after popping on your server (as he is on most) then this would be a prohibitive hassle.

Oh, and you do mean runed shawl rather than embroidered, aye? The embroidered is the sixth and must be turned into the runed (seventh) before you can get the items for the 8th from the Dain.

I believe it would work, provided you could find the Dain often enough.

But you'd lose 8 nice pieces of armor to gain 4 good drops each time... I think the gain would be marginal.

I'd be more inclined to sell the armor in bazaar and buy a Windblade... those are nice weapons too.

aye, if you are that determined to keep making the royal armor, just make the bp and legs and sell it in the bazaar.

I was considering the same for my guild. The weapons are fairly decent, and at least on Tarew, are certainly more usefull than the armor. Using the agro kite method for the 8th fights, it's doable by 3 groups of 55-60's, and the general yield is a great bonus to the melees.

However.... if you have a 240+ smith, the tae ew weapons actually are better; they just need parts farmed. Also gained via ct drops is the chain for those classes.

If you can get a group, or two, to farm in CT.. you'll like that influx of items better than the 8th shawl trip. For iksar blood, head over to Dulak with a group, and farm Windscorn... drops are a touch slow, but everything is blue, and there's decent pp/gem drops.

Is all that work really worth a couple of 10/20 weapons?

Isn't the armor made from this NO DROP?

The armor can be made into tradeable version with 1 extra combine, but then it no longer works for the quest. Go to bazaar and look for Engraved royal velium, you'll find some for sale.

I'd have to say the trouble of making 8 pieces of this armor isn't worth the 3-4 nice drops you get during the raid. Especially when you can sell those 8 pieces for about 20k and you don't need a raid to do it.

It took me many, many hours of camping geonids (mostly light blue cons) to get my quest done, I won't be going back to do it again.

Tae ew wepons don't proc though, do they?
10/20 plus a mod, + a proc = a nice weapon with a much better aggro generation. Of course, that would only matter to the warriors.

The proc on the mallet is nice, although it's probably better in the hands of a monk.

The tae ew are 12/20's, and i guess i have to defer judgement to the melees, as none of my alts will ever get to the point where they get full benefit.

As for killing the genoids, it a person does their shawl at 60 or below... then 80% of the genoids are blue, which is slow, but steady exp. pp drops are moderate, and it's a nice quite little spot youi can casually kill at.

At best, the bp and maybe legs will sell... even if you gain 20k per set, which is a bit high for TM, you're then looking at 7-13k per tae ew weapon, or 12-14k per 8th shawl weapon drop... doing the 8th fights would be a bigger gain in items, just depends if you see it as a chore, or a fun little excursion.

One alternative is that you can sell the Avatar of Below spawn for money after you collect all the drops. That should make you an extra bit of cash as well.
