  • Should I raise WIS or INT?

Hello everyone, level 27 Wood Elf Ranger here. I am knew to tradeskills, but I know a few things. Unbuffed, my WIS is 90, and my INT is 77. Is INT less expensive to raise than WIS, vice versa, or are they the same? I am wondering because I want to raise one of them for when I do tradeskills, but I don't know which I should concentrate on. Thanks. Some cheap suggestions would be nice as well.

Wis as it's ahead already and you are a wisdom base class so as you level up you are likely to get more wis gear.

As to what ... jewelers make some nice +wis rings.

If you are looking for INT and WIS buffs to help you along, ENC gets Insight at 39 and Brilliance at 44 - Both increase both, but Insight does more WIS than INT, and Brilliance is more INT than WIS.

If you cannot afford a donation to a KEI, ask a lower ENC for Insight. It won't last as long, but will still help.

As a ranger, it would prove more useful to you to improve your wisdom since it would also improve your spell casting. And as you gain levels and buy upgraded armor and weapons there’s a good chance some of it will also contain wisdom bonuses.

And even if you are only shopping for items to wear while practicing trade skills, I’d still suggest going with wisdom gear. Not only is you’re wisdom already higher than your intelligence, as it should be, but I’ve found that wisdom items tend to be a lot more common, and thus cheaper, than intelligence items.

        Best of luck.

Hello and welcome to the Insane Assylum!

Hehe, all kidding aside, as a ranger you should raise your WIS, I say this not just because it will make your mana pool bigger, but because WIS gear for a ranger is more readily available than INT gear for a ranger. Be prepared to have a Tradeskilling set of gear and a Fighting/Raiding/other set of gear. Most classes, besides priests/int casters do.

Also, if you are doing just fletching for now, try raising your DEX, alot of ranger gear has dex on it, and it may be easier/cheaper for you to raise your DEX over your WIS. DEX buffs can be bummed off a shaman(sorry guys, had to tell him).

That should help you out. Good luck, and just sell your sanity now, you wont need it later.

I have to agree with Farnyr; there is some DIRT CHEEP Dex gear for Rangers. BUT, if you are thinking you might want to do other tradeskills at some point, go for the Wis gear as the Dex gear is only going to help you with Fletching and do nothing to help you with the other tradeskills.

You mentioned cheap suggestions, so here are a few:

Charred Guardian Shield +9 WIS usually goes pretty cheap.

Acrylia Studded Cloak is +10 WIS along with some STR and DEX

The Ruby veils are usually cheap to buy and have WIS in varying degrees, best, if I remember, is Velium Ruby at +8 WIS +8 STR

There are several rings that you can search for that add WIS, depending on availability and may be cheap.

These are just a few suggestions. For 1kpp or less, you can have a nice set of armor that you can use for both tradeskills AND hunting. Good luck to you.
