  • Our tradskilling should be this easy

OK, creadted an account because I had to make sure you guys knew this:

This is taken from a dev team conversation for EQOA (the ps2 version)

The system will encourage a lot of experimentation. If the items don't combine to make anything then you will be notified that it’s not a valid recipe and won't lose any ingredients.

If the items are for a valid recipe then the product (if you succeed) will be added into your tradeskill journal. Once in the journal you won't need to drag each item into a container, you can simply hit the journal entry and it will take the appropriate items from your inventory to make the item.
I think is says a lot on it's own, so the only thing I'll add is "When the hell do we get this?!?!?!??"

Sounds completely unlike the DaoC tradeskill system in a way that will occur to me shortly.

            ****....

I can see how this would be necessary for the PS2 version since moving items around in inventory has to be a heck of a lot harder than Ctrl-clicking.
Add to that the fact that macroing on PS2, which not impossible, is very, very unlikely.
Add this to EQPC and you'd have GM tradeskillers poping up within days in droves.

Assuming they could even add coding for this in this version of EQ, I'd say that we can see this upgrade in the next expansion.

Of course, it's going to be horribly bugged - most likely it will be unable to recognise a stack of items and will thus eat a stack of each item per combine - ie/one cultural BP = one stack of tempers, one stack of BD, three stacks of enchanted metal, one stack of imbued gems.

No more EQ for me till they fix the crash bug.

Not true Cigar. If you imbue or make mana vials, when you make the vials it takes exactly 1 gem and 1 vial from the stacks in your pack and you get 1 vial. With imbuing, I never put a gem on my cursor(which i hear some do), I always just casted and poof, it grabbed just one(never lost one). But I do think it would get bugged some how.

From EQ Caster's EQOA page, Write-up of the Las Vegus Fan Fair discussion:
What are the trade skills and when will we see them in game?

The trade skills in development are: Jewelcraft, Tailoring, Armorcraft, Weaponcraft and Carpentry. Carpentry includes fletching and bow crafting...

I honestly haven't played with the trade system in DAoC at all. Although I have played the game.

I simply designed a system I felt best fit with the mechanics and gameplay of EQoA and I hope our players find it enjoyable.

Yakatizma, To be honest, the BIGGER surprise will be the day a "new" game comes out and acts, looks, and behaves like NONE of it's predecessors. If a system works and all... Don't take my statement as me having a PROBLEM with it cause I don't; I was just making a sarcastically worded observation.

As to how close of a fit it is, It's close enough that I would be surprised if the legal department wasn't double checking copyright issues...

And I have to agree with Rurulet; not a single one of use would object to a less "click intensive" method of combining items in EQPC tradeskills. (As long as the bugs are worked out first).

oh, mygosh. a real developer person visits these boards?

pardon my eighties moment, but... wow.

                              will you PLZ hire me?????
                              just kidding. promise.

i was hanging out at caster's realm when i saw the original message described in the first post. i misread at first, and thought they were overhauling EQ-PC's tradeskill system, and nearly died. But no. so, I lived.

but I read the thing anyway, and thought, WAH why can't we just have a 'click-combine-take-items-automatically' system??? That would save a lot of people some time... wrist pain... money from buying a new mouse... ^_^

Altho...... wouldn't it be nifty to have a 'recipe journal' of some kind in EQpc? Like the EQOA version... when you sucessfully make a recipe for the first time, it's recorded in your journal... you open the appropriate container (loom/sew-kit, brew barrel, forge) and open your journal and hit 'combine' under the appropriate recipe, and get one of the appropriate items on your cursor...

and the day that happens, i sense plummeting Misty Thicket Picnic prices....

so in other words, it woudl be nifty for the maker, but not for the market.

still, somethign to dream about. ^_^
