  • New brewer with a few questions

Hello all! I am relatively new to brewing, and have a couple questions to ask. First, what is a tanaan brewing barrel? And how do I aquire one? Second, What is a geerlok, and how do I go about getting one of these? Any info you all can give me on this would be very greatly appreciated. Thanks!

a Tanaan Brewing Barrel is any barrel located in the Plane of Knowledge(New Tanaan) a geerlok is made by a gnome tinkerer(only tinkerer there is =*P) so you would seek out a tinkerer for one.

What one is, is an item that add a 5% chance of making an item. There is now one for every trade skill, Baking, Brewing, ext...all the to Tinkering and Reasearch. They do NOT help with skill ups, just adds a little more to the 5% base chance to make an item if it is high over your skill or helps better the chance if you are at or above the skill, nice to have when trying to make money items like Qeynos Afternoon Tea. Hope it helps.

It adds 5 percent to your effective skill for success (but not for skill up). At skill 100, this is 5 points or 5 percent, but at skill 200, it's 10 points or 10 percent to success - if applicable.

This assumes the raise in effective skill will take you above the 5 percent threshold, and that you are not already over the 95 percent success level.

Someone with smithing 0 will have a 5 percent chance to make a dark regent breastplate. Someone with smithing 0 and a geerlok will not have a 10 percent chance, they will still have a 5 percent chance to make it.

A smith with 200 skill will have a 95 percent chance to make metal bits. A smith will 200 skill and a geerlok will not have a 100 percent chance to make metal bits, they will still have a 95 percent chance to make metal bits.

And if you believe that the correlation between skill ips and successes exists, more successes will mean more skill ups.

            It is always 5%.

            100 X 5% = 5 points = 5% of 100
            200 X 5% = 10 points = 5% of 200, not 10%

The geerlok does not add percent to success.

If you are doing an item with your skill at 100 and the item with a trivial of 250, then your success rate is about 5% (critical success :P ). With the geerlok equiped, your success is measure as if it were 100+5%*100 = 105. The chance of success for that item is still 5%. Having skill 105 versus 100 makes no difference. If you are working on an item that has a success rate of 50%, then adding the geerlok will show an improvement.

                It is always 5%.

                100 X 5% = 5 points = 5% of 100
                200 X 5% = 10 points = 5% of 200, not 10%

That's the modifier to effective skill. One point of effective skill adds one percent to success rate, within the 5-95 success range. So a 5 percent increase to SKILL with 200 raw skill adds 10 point of effective SKILL or 10 percent higher chance of SUCCESS.

The post I was originally replying to said that a geerlok always added 5 percent to success rate. This is wrong. The numbers I cite there are for a constant modifier to effective skill and the increase in success rate they yield.
