Doh, I should have thought of that. There's a quest for the Paladin spell Divine Might that requires you to find seven ground spawns from all over the old world.

Adapted from the Paladins of Norrath board at http://pub148.ezboard.com/fpaladinsofnorrathtomesofknowledge.showMessage?top icID=11.topic
    1) Shield - Docks of Erudin neg 600, neg 725
    2) Sword - Mines at Kaladim (water edge)
    3) Ribcage - on the ground near the fountain in Mistmoore where the Cloaked Dhampyre occasionally hangs out.
    4) Skull - Minotaur Cave (steamfont) where Meldrath hangs out
    5) Backbone - Unrest (Pit Area near the Dwarf ghost)
    6) Jawbone - Everfrost Ice cave. pos 4525, neg 5238
7 ) Finger - Kedge - Phin's room. On a rock next to the wall. Exact Location is neg 147, pos 145, neg 251.
All the items are called "a dusty FOO".

Item 1 is hidden in the most Godforsaken part of Erudin; you have to swim to get to it. There are also some no-drop quest pearls in the water near there, but I forget the exact name of those.

Item 2 is in the watery bit with the cart tracks running over it. Swim in the water, and you'll see a sword lying at the bottom.

Item 3 is in the Mistmoore "garden" area, just off spot #7 on the EQAtlas map. Looks like a small bag.

Item 4 is self-explanatory. Looks like a small bag.

Item 5 is on the floor at the deepest pit in the basement of Unrest. Looks like a bag.

Item 6 is a real nuisance to get to if you can't find the hole in the ice -- took me a couple of hours running around to find it. You'll also need an Enduring Breath item or spell, or a really high swimming skill to avoid drowning. Once you find the ice hole (it's somewhere near loc pos 2500, neg 4250, but I don't have the exact spot handy), swim north up the river and you'll find a cave. Follow the right-hand wall, and you'll eventually see on your left a monstrous wall with a sigil on it. The item is like a small bag on the ground under the sigil. Note that this cave area is not on any Everfrost map I've been able to find.

I haven't been to Kedge yet, so I don't know about item 7.

Another idea that would be handy to a ground spawn list is the respawn time.

There are 7 ground spawns for permafrost crystals in Permafrost, not 4. There are rumors of some near the jail or in the kings room, but I've never found them there and I've looked many many times so I am confident of saying that nonexist there.

          In Howling Stone (aka Charasis)
          Blood Encrusted Glove +313, -567
          Mutilated Forearm -567, +152
          Dismembered Thumb 143, +623
          Dismembered Finger +331, +207

There's one ground spawn per wing and the three body parts are combined in the glove to make the master key for Howling Stone

Also, as you set up your little quest, don't put items on it that have a long respawn time (eg Lost Scroll) as some of those items are part of an epic quest.

Bouquet of Dried Flowers in the GY in Katta, they are NODROP, no clue what they are for though and not TS tagged last time I saw them.

                Neat Ground Spawns Not Mentioned

Here are some ground spawns I've seen that aren't mentioned. Some are close to books or port points, and some not, but all are ground spawns.

Bale of Hay in West Karana, in various fields. Weighs 10.0 stones, so newbies beware. Used to keep your horse from eating you out of house and home.

Misty Twig in Misty Thicket, Runnyeye side of the wall, in the deep valley, next to the big tree in the bottom of the valley. Looks like a little bag, used in a newbie Froglok paladin quest, I believe.

Morning Dew in the Lesser Faydark. Used in high elf cultural smithing (and brewing for those who are nuts enough to make wine out of it).

Coins for the Tashania quest, in various cities. There are ten, in every major old world city. Very good quest for mid-levels, who will need to learn how to farm faction or sneak into KOS places, both good practices for guild work.

                Hope these help a bit.

Actually, the hay is used for gaining faction with the Miller family so that Chandra Miller (Qeynos Hills) will talk to you and make you some Bear Hide Boots or Cloak. You have to bring it to the woman who is either in the fields or in the building next to them.

Wow, it has been a while since I did that quest.

Actually there are 8 spawns - got semi-lost there again trying to use /loc etc and find another one. It's in the upper northwest corner of the wolf pits -- I forgot to get an exact loc but it's not that hard to find if your roaming all down there anyway.

Sorry, no locs for this stuff...

Rod next to bergungle in lake rathe. Not sure whether that's one of the ones for the wizzie quest someone already mentioned.

Unjeweled hilt in lake rathe, under aviak tower (war epic).

damaged hilt in timorous deep, on the chessboard (war epic)

Not sure about the rod, but the other two are nodrop.

If I were you I'd make them complete the tashania quest (but don't tell them that's what it is...) - just tell them there's a silver coin in each city, go find it :P As someone said earlier - faction issues teach you a lot.

Or you could make them bring you yew leaves. that'd be what I'd do, but I'm evil :P

Another suggestion in a similar vein is to find some of the junk used in the harder parts of newbie quests - like brownie parts - and make a scavenger list. Some of it is nodrop, and none of it should pose a problem for anyone higher than 15th level (and maybe less.. I've only done part of the kelethin bard one to help my cousin).

The last idea is to find something that's vendor sold on only ONE vendor (or multiple vendors, but only one zone) like neriak nectar or the stupid nuts for tompy's tonic - Generally bazaar mules don't have that stuff, but it's ALWAYS on vendors and it takes away a lot of the tedium of camping a spawn point or roaming a zone hoping for a ground spawn. I know the nuts (kiola nuts? I can't remember) take up a full bag slot each and getting to the spot in oot is a hassle even with books (maybe not now that the gnomes have taken over) - but it's low "risk" as far as death is concerned.

                            Just some thoughts,

This one won't be useful to your quest, but for those wanting information about every ground spawn in the game I'll mention it.

In Eryslai, Kingdom of Wind (a.k.a. Plane of Air), on the island where Xegony spawns there's a book that spawns entitled "Quintessence of Elements" that describes the process for making the Plane of Time key.
