  • Foraging Machette broken?

Foraging skill only affects whether you find something or not and at 200 you don't fail. The machette grants a 10% modifier so you should not fail at or above 182. At lvl 39 and 183 skill I still fail a good amount with the machette. The skill level cap for lvl 39 is 200 so that can't be the problem.

This makes me wonder about other modifiers that are hard to prove. How many are actually working?

At 200 skill, it's VERY rare for me to fail a forage, but I'm 99% certain it happens from time to time.

At 200 you can still fail at forage. Just not very common.

The failures are definately not rare or uncommon. Maybe foraging success is based on more than a skill number or the modifier only raises the cap instead of current value but I doubt it. I'll post an update when I hit 200.

With 200 skill on two characters I see about one forage failure a day. I do not have forage tied to a movement key or anything so I am sure when I fail since I am expecting food to keep myself force feed. Gotta save those stat foods.

I have never seen a failed forage in the 15 levels when I have had a forage of 200. I'm sure I would remember, since it would be a shocker. I have an iksar who forages all the time, so I'm sure I would notice if I failed at a forage for the druid.

I don't forage, but I was under the impression that a higher skill reduced the reuse time of the forage button. Wouldn't it be possible to test if the machete worked by timing it?

hold machete. press forage. time until the forage button pops again.

                    remove machete. press forage. time.

From a skill of 0, 50, 100, 150 and 200 Forageing your refresh timer is the same. I have even timed it so I could make a hot key when forageing for my Epic items. I wish it did go down, but nope. The most commone of the "normal" forages I get are Roots, Rabbit Meat, Pods of Water followed by fishing grubs (Unless I'm in PoK, then I get a LOT of Bookwurms). But that's it.

                        Timing Forage

I did that timing test with the Machette some weeks ago when I did the quest. I discovered something strange. The refresh time increased to 120 secs when I had it equipped. When I tried to verify it a few days later it stayed the same both equipped and not. At 200 skill I have a 100 secs refresh time. I tested it on a 50 skill mule and got 100 secs on her also.

Also there have been reports of people getting 'You must wait longer before you can forage'. There may be some bugs with the foraging timer, or at least there were some.

I thought that the modified skill only increased chances of the getting the "special" forages, while your base skill is what fails are based on? Or do I have it backwards or confused?

I have never failed a forage ever since getting 200. I can guarantee you that. 200 = never fail. And since your skill in foraging just affects how often you fail, it's pointless to use the machete unless your skill is well under 200. Foraging skill does not effect rare forage %, my druid with 130 skill forages rares at the same rate as I do with 200 skill, which is at the mercy of the RNG.

Actually it's pointless to use the machette at all, the thing just doesn't work.
