  • Noob question about trivials

If my goal is to only craft an item with a trivial of 62, will raising my skill above 62 increase my chances of success on that item?

    Thank you.

For an item with 62 trivial, yes.

I love that response, woulda taken me 3 paragraphs .

I'd say as a general rule of thumb to make it easy, if trivial is over 100, you need to be at trivial, if trivial is below 100, I'd suggest getting to 100.

I know it is more complex than that, and formulas etc. apply, but that is the easiest way to look at it for me.

I always look at it as the higher my skill the less chance I have at failures regardless of the trival.

          It's like this, ya see...

Essentially, the further beyond the trivial of the item your skill is, the more likely you are to be in the 5% failure rate range.

Most skills are not particularly difficult to work up to 100, but it may not be worth your time and effort if you are only ever going to craft this one item, one time. If it's something you see yourself creating more than once, push to at least 100. If it's something you're crafting only once, but the supplies are dear or otherwise hard to come by, push to at least 100. If the components drop like orc pawn scalps, and you don't mind failing a few times, just keep crafting until you succeed.

Thanx for the help. The 62 was a random number I picked. My goal is to just get high enough in pottery and brewing to make prismatic dyes with a decent chance for success.

            Should I go for 100?

              I would

              I would.

The trivials to make the dye's are all 70's or lower if I remember right. Just push em up to 100 each to maximize your successes.

It's been my experience, that if you stop right at the trivial of an item, the best you can expect as far as successe rate is about 70%. Mileage may vary of course. I've done both better and worse.

                Aye.

Especially considering the ease with which pottery and brewing will raise. Do Fetid Essence to 122 for brewing and then do medium bowls until about the same. Not a lot of cost, not a lot of effort. Good luck with it. Now, make sure to come back for advice BEFORE you dye your armor...

It all depends on the skill.

At 174, you have a 95 percent chance to make an exactly trivial item.

At 194 skill, you have a 95 percent chance to make a 214 trivial item.

At 46 skill (Heady Kiola's) you have a 60 percent chance to make an exactly trivial item.

                      Success* = Skill - 0.75*Trivial + 51.5 (rounded up, for Trivial>= 68)

step 1: Set success to 95 and skill to 194, trivial = 201

step 2: Swear and check your math.

I was solving for the skill that would give 95 percent on an item trivial 20 over skill and did 3/4 of 20 is 5, not 15.

It should be 234 skill for 95 percent success on a 254 trivial item.
