  • RNG not so R?

It's probably a moot point since today is patch day, but did anyone else notice yesterday that the first combine they did in any container failed? This happened on all of the various combines I did (forge, pottery wheel, kiln, mortar and pestle, mixing bowl, oven, brewbarrel (yes, I was busy yesterday 8) )), and again to a guildmate (pottery wheel, kiln). It just seemed really amazingly odd that each time I tried a new skill, the first combine failed. Yes, the bulk of these combines were trivial. Some were tried without a geerlok, some with. 1st combine = failure. Every time. It wasn't too irritating until my guildie took a crack at the 2 attempts at a Blessed Idol of Tunare for me, failed the first on the wheel, then failed the second in the kiln (the first combine was non-trivial, the 2nd obviously, was deeply trival to her).

Maybe the RNG just hates me lately. Maybe it's not so random any more. Thoughts, observations?

    Thanks,

Well. Technically in Programming there is No such thing as a random number. If you know the seed number (the result is based on a mathmatical computation using the seed number) you know the result.

Depending on how often the seed number is changed determines just how "random" the results are. Ever notice that lots of people on raids seem to crit at the same time? This means that their "random" number generation function is kinda streaky

Don't you also have to know the iteration, in addition to the seed number?

        Combines

Well, my first combines yesterday worked fine (spell research), although the only one I cared about (24th level necro pet) failed both times

Yesterday I made my Grandmaster Smith's Hammer on the first combine.
          All sub-combines succeeded also.
10 hours later I made 2 Tae Ew Shields in 2 combines.
Those were the only combines I did yesterday and I felt REALLY GOOD

I would only be concerned if that mortar and pestle combine was CE.

Otherwise I agree with the others, technically there is no such thing as a random number in computers... but it's pretty darn close.
