  • Fantastic LoY quest for dark race tradeskillers

Goto Nerial foriegn section and hail the new dark elf NPC on the ramp to the troll/ogre ghettos - here's a pict of him and his dialoge -

    http://groups.yahoo.com/group/EQpicts/files/Quests/Epb1.JPG

He basically wants you to get three no-drop troll pirate heads from LoY and then combine them together in a sack he gives you. Heads are a semi-frequent drop off of the troll pirates in the town if you take the left tunnel. The ones you need were light blue to me at 51.

The dark elf NPC was indifferent faction to my troll SK - he's probobly on his own unique faction or no faction at all.

    The reward is this -

A very sweet peice in general but especially sweet to those smiths and fletchers out there - too bad it's lore.

I haven't tried this with a INT or WIS caster yet, so I don't know if they get thier own special reward. I also don't know if you get something else for doing the quest a second time - as you can see, there was no faction hits at all.

No more EQ for me till they fix the crash bug.

I did this quest as a Human Paladin of Mith Marr, so you don't need to be a evil.

I invised to the Teir Dal Coorespondent, used a DE Illusion Potion and finished the quest.

He was indifferent to me as a DE, however I think he would have been indiff even if I wasn't.

Anyone know if this could be done with a DE Illusion potion as a Tunare worshipper?

Based on my experiences using the DE illusion from my Mask of Deception, if you worhship a good god, the illusion won't mask it. However, the illusion WILL still get you killed in good cities who don't like inkies (although werewolf illusion will get you killed in more places.. /chuckle). It seems a tad unfair, but that's been my experience.

Here's a more detailed list of places I've tested:

In DE illusion when I used to fear kite in OT, the Dragoons still hated me.

Forgetting to click off DE illusion when I went to sell in FV would get me killed.

DE illusion in the outpost in OT did no good. (Note that my faction with Venril Sathir could not possibly get any worse.)

DE illusion in Mistmoore did no good in my mid-40s when I was hunting essence of midnight there. I can walk through MM now and nothing aggros, but that's probably due to increasing my faction with Mayong Mistmoore to max ally or due to my level.

As someone else mentioned in another thread, there are a couple of things that matter when checking faction, and some matter more to one NPC than another.

Race is part of the critieria.
Specific actions you've done to either raise or lower the faction is a large part of the critieria.
Your god is part of the critieria.

The bottom line is that, in my experience, DE illusion is good for looking like a DE and ultravision, but not for faction (unless your goal is to be killed in a good city.)

EDIT: I forgot to mention that I'm a half elf who worships Tunare.

            faction is made up of

            1. Race (modifyable illusions)
            2. Class (nonmodifyable, yes class can effect faction)
            3. Relgion (nonmodifyable)
            4. Deeds (goes from -2000, to 2000, ie normal faction gain/loss)
            5. Faction items (scalp of ghoul lord etc)
            6. Faction spells/songs (alliance etc)

Basically your race/class religion determine your starting faction and your deeds starts at 0 and can modify your perceived faction

                  1) What town zone? Dulak or Gunthak?

                  2) Is the mob actually named "A troll pirate"?

I ran around and saw troll residents, augers, mystics, broken skull guards who were a troll model, etc. What mob drops the heads for this quest? I saw zero troll pirates on track or any race "pirate."

Follow the chain of rocks to the beach with the undead and the castaways.

Hug the right hand wall and it will take you to a cave.

Go into the cave and follow it till it breaks - follow the left break (I haven't tried the right so don't know what's there).

The cave will then break again - once again follow the left break (don't know what's on this right either).

This will take you to a village with a fort in the middle - it's full of pirates of every race and all of them should be KOS to you.

You'll want to hunt the trolls in the huts - they're called troll marauders I think - the mystics didn't drop a head the entire time I was there.

The ones that did drop heads were light blue to me at 51.

                      A few things.

Even though this isn't really a tradeskill quest, I'm leaving it floating here for now.

They *may* have done some tweaking to his faction recently.

A half-elven ranger of Karana was dubious to him in native form. While he was willing to start the conversation at dubious, there are two guards who path in sensing range of him now. (Light blue at level 51.)

An essence of dark elf potion kicked her up to warmly with the NPC, but she was still KoS to the roaming guards ... so I had to kill one of them to finish the quest, while the other was on walkabout. :O

Note that the heads seem to be a rare drop off more than one type of troll in the caves. I think my last one was off a troll commoner near the Dulak zone.

barring very serious faction work, anyone worshiping a "light" god.. mith marr, tunare, karana.. will be kos to all of the neriak faction, even under illusions.

For this guy to be dubious to a treehugger, he's got to be on a different faction all together. Given that, some lighty might want to con the npc just inside neriak commons also, he gives a loy quest as well.. and may also be on a universally non-kos faction. He's on the path right in front of the waterfall, before you hit the PoD.

Is he a vendor by any chance?
Vendors won't con below dubious to anyone...

                            He's not a vendor.

Agnostic human ally to all of Neriak but the Indigo's (scowl), and he was indifferent to me.

Well, I did say that the quest was for DARK race tradeskillers in the title mom.

I'm sure some would object to this thought (though it isn't made with real malice), but seeing all the faction work us darkies have to do in order to function, much less do the bulk of the good quests out there, you lighties aren't going to get any sympathy from me on this.

As a side note though, it would seem that on Xev atleast, this NPC has been perma-killed for the moment - he apparently was in his high 30s/low 40s but only had 20 hitpoints and didn't hit for more than 4 points a pop - even better XP for a low level then the mino hero.
