  • why get all the trophies?

I have a question for our 1750 clubbers and those striving for it.

Why go for all the trophies? Is it merely because the trophy is supposed to be the culmination of the skill of that tradeskill?

And not to be offensive, but once you have one trophy, is there any other point to spending a gazillion plat on it? The basic stats you don't need - you can get that from one trophy. The +skill % - well, I would guess that most of us already have the Geerlok or better for every skill we use, so you don't need the trophy for that either. And you can only have one bag (or two, including the no rent one) from them, right?

Again, please, I mean not to offend nor belittle the immense skill or cash required to get high enough to make these suckers, let alone more than one - but please, if I'm missing something, can someone enlighten me? =)

One reason to get trophies is to reassure people that your skill is actually high, particularly when you want them to pay you for a click.

Why climb mountains? And if you have doner Everest, why bother doing K9?

It's there; it's a challenge; it's fun (at least to people who like doing tradeskills)

please don;t take offense at my answer.

          Because I can...

If you were wondering if there is any other benefit than my ego needing a rocking chair, I don' know of any. But I wish they would give a different name to each permanent bag you get from the trophies.

            Pride.

Why would people buy a white/black horse instead of colored ones?
Why would people spend money dying their armor?

            Pride.

Nothing wrong to it, it's a goal, just like reaching 65, killing uber_mob_99, making a million plat or getting to 500 /pla days (yes I know someone who wants to get that on my server hehe)

Actually, one of the reasons I decided NOT to do all tradeskills on one character was so that I could have the bag on each character....

But yeah as others have posted, why not.

I made a trophy for every skill I am 250 in so far, and I plan on making one for every future skill I'll be 250 in. The reasons?

                1) Usually when I am working up a skill, and get to somewhere around 225-235 I attempt the trophy so I have a skill mod item AND stats. Luckily have succeeded within three attempts. If by chance I didn't succeed by then, I make it at 250 knowing that I have a much better chance of making it.

                2) I make the trophy to "finish" off the skill. To say it's complete and done. It's a personal thing I have

                3) There is nothing more exciting, and more rewarding then having a Trophy for your skill. IMO, it's the pinnacle of success. There's something to be said about sitting in front of the container, all components ready for combine, then hitting that button while holding your breath. It's exhilirating, scary, and so much fun all in one when you add a new trophy to your collection

                4) Pride, bragging rights, and true "Trophy Status". It's like asking a champion athlete why they continue to compete in the Olympics after they've already won the gold, silver and bronze medals in the previous Olympics.

As for spending a gazdillion plats on trophies...if you vendor dive enough, you will find all the gems on merchants. Diamonds are on ever merchant between PoK and PoT in stacks, and Blue Diamonds can be found from time to time also. The only real high cost would be the velium bars.

My answer to this question is also, pretty much, "Because I can."

I never "needed" any of the trophies in the first place. I didn't need the stats, and I didn't the bag (though I ended up getting rid of another tink bag just because the GM satchel was niftier), and I didn't need the skill mods. But I really wanted them anyway.

When you don't need a trophy for any practical reason, it takes on whatever importance you feel like giving it. For me, I treat the trophies like prizes--like symbols of my accomplishment. I was very, very particular about never trying a trophy until I got to 250 in a skill. Sure, I could have tried them earlier, but I pretended I couldn't, and that gave them a little more meaning to me.

Basically, in kind of a silly way, they brought closure to my tradeskills. Y'know, the same way you can complete your degree requirements at university, but you aren't really a graduate until your convocation. All of them (even the first) was a pride thing, not a practical thing.

And, once you've spent the huge amount of platinum and/or hard work to become a 1750 tradeskiller, I think you'll find the trophies don't seem very expensive or difficult at all. Well, maybe they were a bit expensive, bit it was something that was worth it to me.

Why go for all the trophies?
                    Why not?

After all, it's a trophy - should I not put the bear head on my wall just because I've already got a deer head?

Just three of them gives you 150 points of CHR - that let's me get rid of a bunch of CHR gear for good.

Pride - why get every AA ability that your class can get even if you don't need them?

Too much time/plat on our hands - I've got 3500 plat times X number of attempts to get them.

One never knows if tradeskill caps might be lifted - maybe for this Winter's expansion they'll raise the tradeskill cap to 300 or 355 - then you don't need a geerlok and you other gear - you've got an item which is +10 INT/WIS AND a 5% geerlok.

Because we're tradeskillers and we're pigheaded as all balls and getting that trophy is an act of closure - it let's us finally stop combining for skill ups and just take it easy and cheer when a normal combine gives a skill up.

Seeing as though it took 7 attempts at the last one, I think I will spend the money on tinkerbags

                          That's plenty. I was just curious. =)

I would like to submit that I think it's also the desire to copy what other 1750's or multiple skill gm's: "They've got all the trophies; if I don't have all the trophies, then I'm not as good as them."

Anyone wanna admit to that or am I just being silly?

I don't think 5k is a significant amount to anyone who has achieved 1750.

To get there they spent 1 million plat as a rough estimate. I'd imagine if they are 1750 by now, they didn't farm everything for Fletching, Smithing, and Tailoring.

                            So why not?

I dont think it is competitiveness or to say "Anything you can do I can do better."

The other practical thing is whatever skill they do, they don't have to use their geerlok, (and likely got rid of it) and they don't have to switch out CHA gear, which they might also have gotten rid of. It is a big convienience.

Look up the meaning of "trophy" in the dictionary and you will have my answer.

"The trophy-less Gnome" at the moment... but soon!
